EXPOSITION AND PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS

There is no lesson assigned for today. However, we are advised to read Hosea 14, but the lesson is intended by the Com mittee to be a review, and nothing more done with Hosea 14 than to read it. It is a pity that the chapter could not be studied, for it is well worth studying, and with many classes a review is difficult, if not impossible. However, the lesson comes at Christmas time and it might be well, where a review is impossible, to take up some chapter in one of the Gospels that sets forth our Lord’s birth; or, it might be well to study the two accounts, that in Matthew 1 and that in Luke 2 , side by side. Of course, we have no proof whatever that our Lord was born on Christmas Day. December 25th is simply the day upon which the church decided many centuries ago to celebrate our Lord’s birth. God has not deemed it wise, in His Word, to tell us the exact date of His birth. But every one is thinking about His birth at this time of the year. To return to the review, the lesson as signed by the Committee. The lessons of the quarter cover a period of 293 years,

from 899 B. C. to 606 B. C. One lesson given by the Committee for this quarter, Lesson VII, November 14th, is entirely out of its chronological order. Chronologic ally) i t . should be the last lesson of the quarter. In the lessons of the quarter we have six kings: Ahab, Joash, Nebuchadnezzar, King of Nineveh, Uzziafi, Hoshea; and six prophets: Elijah, Elisha, Daniel, Jonah, Amos, Hosea; and one general, Naaman. A good way to review the lessons of the quarter would be to have the different kings and ' prophets assigned to different scholars in the class to present a written analysis of the character of the several persons assigned. Material for such a re view could be- found in the notes of the various lessons of the quarter. Another good way to review the lesson would be to bring out the central truth for each, lesson. Material for this could be found in the notes for each lesson in the preceding pages. It would be well to assign a lesson to each scholar and re quire a brief written report on the lesson.
