Inspired by the original, designed for today
In this Chelsea townhouse, HW2366 Basque herringbone and HW14306 Basque plank matched existing wooden flooring to deliver seamless timber continuity from old to new. This stunning project demonstrates how our luxury flooring can bridge historic and contemporary interiors. The existing nail-down oak herringbone in the living spaces was carefully restored, serving as the reference point for all new timber flooring introduced. To maintain continuity, ARKD London specified HW2366 Basque herringbone and HW14306 Basque planks, chosen for their close tonal and character match to the original boards. The glue‑down herringbone installation brought stability and precision, while bespoke bullnose stair nosings and matching planks on the landings reinforced visual harmony between levels. Junctions with other finishes, such as large format tiles, were resolved with subtle recessed metal thresholds to respect both materials without disruption. The result was a near‑perfect blend of old and new, with homeowners praising how seamlessly the new flooring integrates with the historic fabric of the house.
The homeowners were delighted with the outcome, particularly with how seamlessly the new elements blend with the original fabric of the house – often remarking on how difficult it is to distinguish between what was restored and what was newly installed.
