About Our District Pleasanton Unified School District (PUSD) is a destination district located in the Bay Area, 40 miles southeast of San Francisco. PUSD believes every student will be a resourceful, resilient, responsible, and engaged world citizen. Vital to bringing this vision to reality is a systemic focus and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion that is imperative to ensuring all students feel included in the learning community. Every year the U.S. Department of Education celebrates great American schools for academic excellence with the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognition. We are incredibly proud of our staff’s hard work, consistency, and dedication, which has resulted in 9 PUSD schools earning the National Blue Ribbon Recognition over the past fifteen years. It affirms their work in creating safe, welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content.

Our Schools and Programs for Students Our mission is to ensure every student experiences success through access to high-quality, personalized learning opportunities so they are inspired and well-prepared to make a better world. We can only achieve this by hiring the best educators. PUSD offers a variety of programs to meet our students’ needs, including the Pleasanton Virtual Academy (PVA). At every school site, the district provides vice principals, counselors, designated substitutes, technology, and library support, as well as district wide social workers and parent liaisons. Our award-winning schools result from the excellent and unique programs offered at PUSD. Student Support Services The Student Support Services Division leads efforts to provide a safe, supportive learning environment for all students and staff. This division provides specialized academic instruction, behavioral intervention, mental health support, and special education services to students with exceptional needs to fully engage them in high-quality learning in all school and district programs.

Dual Language Immersion Program PUSD’s Dual Language Immersion program offers instruction in English and Spanish to provide mastery of academic Common Core State Standards and cultural proficiency for all participating students. This program is held at Valley View Elementary and feeds to Pleasanton Middle School.

Pleasanton Virtual Academy The Pleasanton Virtual Academy (PVA) allows students to learn from home, in-person and online, taught by the District’s world class educators. This option provides excellent PUSD support for students who seek an alternative to daily, in-person attendance. Career Technical Education Pathways Career Technical Education (CTE) Pathways allow students to experience real world, hands-on learning through a multiyear sequence of courses and provide students with a pathway to post- secondary education and careers. CTE classes are organized in 10 industry sectors including:

Project Lead the Way Project Lead the Way (PLTW) offers pathways in computer science, engineering, and biomedical science where students learn technical skills, problem solving, critical thinking, and collaboration. Some PLTW courses are articulated with the Tri-Valley ROP, allowing students to earn dual credit for high school and college courses. Middle College Middle College is an alternative education collaboration between the Tri-Valley ROP and Las Positas College, providing a supportive, academically rigorous environment for students seeking a non-traditional collegiate pathway. Middle College gives students an opportunity to achieve high school and college academic success, while exploring vocational and career aspirations.

Tri-Valley Regional Occupation Program Tri-Valley Regional Occupational Program (ROP) offers career-technical classes to high school juniors and seniors designed to expose students to the 10 CTE industry sectors.

Work Experience Education Work Experience Education (WEE) is a work-based learning course of study that offers internships and employment combined with instruction in critical workplace skills. WEE helps students to choose a career path, prepare for college and career success, and develop ready-to-work interview skills. Pleasanton Adult Career Education Pleasanton Adult and Career Education (PACE) provides adult students opportunities to acquire basic skills necessary to function in society, so that they can benefit from the completion of secondary school, enhanced family life, citizenship attainment, and participation in job training programs. Opportunities and Support for Our Staff PUSD Wellness Teaching can sometimes be challenging, and to ensure staff are able to provide our students with the best education possible, PUSD supports the physical, mental, and social wellness of our educators through partnerships with Care Solace, as well as leading and curating resources on the PUSD Wellness Site. Human Resources Academies and Professional Development PUSD strives to deliver the best customer service to all our employees. We are focused on retention, leadership development, and employee assistance by providing our certificated and classified staff opportunities to succeed in their current roles and to advance within the organization. Pleasanton New Teacher Project Thanks to a world-class Pleasanton Teacher Induction Program (PNTP), over 90% of educators who start in Pleasanton stay in Pleasanton . Led by the Induction Coordinator, four Induction Coaches assist and support teachers new to PUSD. The PNTP is accredited by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing and offers a two-year comprehensive professional growth and development pathway for teaching candidates, leading to a clear teaching credential in general and special education. Administrator Academy PUSD offers a yearlong academy for administrators with eight sessions focused on the non-academic aspects of site administration, including building community, connections, and support; collective bargaining agreement; finance; hiring; evaluation; discipline; investigations; and meeting facilitation. Classified Academy To provide classified staff opportunities for professional growth that allow them to leverage new skills into positions of interest, PUSD offers training through our Adult Education Department in the following employment classifications: Paraprofessionals, Custodians, Grounds staff, and Clerical staff.

Substitute Training PUSD welcomes community members to become authorized substitutes and join our instructional team as guest teachers. We offer paid training to provide the basics needed for a substitute to be successful with students in the classroom which covers the following topics: Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), Classroom Management, Helpful Tools and Tips, and Technology training. Teachers are well compensated here. The district takes a team approach to problem solving. Job satisfaction can be found where people are committed to what they do. Teachers receive robust support, especially new teachers. The district has a reputation for excellence. Why do teachers prefer PUSD? Community Support PUSD staff receive robust support from highly engaged Pleasanton community groups and actively involved parent and guardian associations.

Pleasanton Partnerships in Education (PPIE) Foundation PPIE supports all Pleasanton schools to ensure students receive a high quality education in an equitable manner. Over the years, PPIE has funded teacher and student grants for innovative projects, targeted technology, and critical staff, including librarians, school site IT specialists, counselors, instructional coaches, and supplemental teachers for class size reduction. Parent and Guardian Associations Nearly 20 parent/guardian and community organizations work with PUSD schools, including school PTAs, the Pleasanton PTA Council, Pleasanton Cultural Arts Council, the Special Needs Committee, the African American Family Network, Mariachi Families, among others.
