Gold cannot buy your way to heav en. No matter how much you pay to the church you cannot buy salvation. It is “not of works of righteousness which we have done.” The streets of heaven are made of pure gold, so what does He want with yours? The Saviour wants to take you to heaven if you will just turn to Jesus Christ. He suffered, the just fort he unjust, that He might bring us to God. Gold won’t make you fit for heaven. The more money some people get, the worse off they are. In the King- A HEARTBEAT FROM HEAVEN W e are living on the border Of Eternity each day; W e are just as close to Heaven A s the stars so far away. And the only thing between us. Whether we are big or small Is a tender, little heartbeat, Just a heartbeat, that is all. In this land of sin and sorrow, Whether old or in our prime, We are only just a heartbeat, From the grave at anytime; No one has a lease on living, Any moment death may call, It is only by God's mercy, That we live and breathe at all. There's a place beyond the River Where we'll lay our burdens down, Where we'll meet our friends and loved ones, And we'll wear a starry crown. All our troubles will be over And no tears shall ever fall; Just a heartbeat from the Glory, Just a heartbeat, that is all. — Walt Huntley dom Christ has prepared for us, the best there is, gold, falls far short of doing anything to us that needs to be done and that should be done. Gold won’t make us fit for walking with God. We have to have a new nature and only Christ can give us that. Yes, Christ promises that He will “make a man more precious than fine gold.” Let this precious Saviour snatch back your life from destruction. I hope you will do that right now, for eternity may be only one breath away.

Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, but beautiful old people are works of art. * * * LIFE'S PATHWAY Over in one of the high countries of Europe there is a mountainous region through which a very narrow and dangerous pathway winds. Be cause the trail is so ribbon-like there is not enough room to pass someone going the other way. People of the area tell about the two donkeys who met each another one day going dif ferent ways. Each refused to budge. The one coming down declared, “Get out of my way or I ’U knock you flat!” The ascending beast wasn’t about to budge and the argument turned into a full-fledged fight. As a result both fell over the cliff and were killed. On another day two goats met at about the same spot. Surveying the possibilities of passing, one compro- misingly suggested, “Let’s just turn around and go back where we came from.” They did and there was no trouble. On still another day villagers tell of the two sheep who met. Trying to figure out a solution to their serious predicament one suggested, “I ’ll just lie down and you can step on me. Then when you’re safely passed, I ’ll get up and we’ll both be on our way.” Now, which of the three groups in this legend was the smartest? The ones that fought, the ones that gave in, or the last? How often we as Christians fail to get the blessing God has for us be cause we are like the donkeys, always insisting on our rights. Or perhaps like the goats, we are just plain in different, unwilling even to try, al together compromising. May we learn the spiritual lesson of blessing and victory as we follow tne Scriptural injunction, “In lowliness of mind let each esteem the other better than himself.” * It may cost you something to obey the truth, however, it'll cost you more not’ to! 24 * *
