!e Gentleman Clothier, running Sep- tember 10 through October 4 at the Upper Canada Playhouse, is the newest Foster play that’s destined to cast its spell on the Playhouse audience. “Reminiscent of On A First Name Basis , !e Gentleman Clothier will again take our audience on an enter- taining and engaging theatre experience,” commented Artistic Director Donnie Bowes. “It’s a terri"c wrap-up to our fabulous sum- mer season.” Set in present day Halifax, the story centres onNormanDavenport, who is about to realize his dreamof owning his own tailor shopmaking and sellingmen’s suits. He no sooner opens his doors for business when a pair of unlikely characters descends upon the shop looking for work. Sophie Tomesko, an exuberant, youthful and very modern young lady, is "rst to visit Norman’s shop and although reticent at "rst, he takes her on as an assistant. She is soon followed by PatrickMarkham, a single father with an ailing daughter, who desperately needs a job to care for her. Soon Norman and his pair of interesting associates are ready to receive their "rst customer. Alisha Sparrow, an attractive and wealthy lady, is after the best suit money can buy for her husband’s birthday. Before long these vastly di#erent characters and the audience are embroiled in an unforgettable story that is both funny andmagical as Nor- manmakes a wish to return to a time when life was simpler and values were di#erent.
