Friends Club 4th Quarter 2018

Appalachian Trail Talk and Tasting Guild Wurst Tavern (53 2nd St, Coralville) Monday, October 29, 2:00 p.m.

In 2012, Brewmeister Kinkade and his brother Jon, a chef, hiked the entire Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. Join us at Guild Wurst Tavern in Coralville, home to Boot 'n' Flute Brewery, for an afternoon of great food, great beer, and stories about their six-month journey along the Appalachian Trail to get a glimpse into what life was like on the trail. There will be a presentation with photos from their trip, as well as a flight of beer for everyone to try—some beers deriving their names from adventures had on the trail—and a musical performance by the Kinkade brothers.

Seating is limited. Cost per person is $15 for members and $20 for non-members and includes a flight of beer, appetizers, the presentation, and all taxes and gratuities. Register with Kelsey Redlinger at 319-679-2128 or Kelsey_Redlinger@HillsBank.com.

Origami: A Beginner’s Lesson (Bonus: Photos from a recent Japan trip) Hills Bank in Iowa City (1401 S Gilbert St) Tuesday, October 30, 2:00-3:30 p.m.

Join Amanda Lensing, Senior Living Communities Program Coordinator at the University of Iowa Stanley Museum of Art, as she discusses the origins of the Japanese art of paper folding and instructs how to make a few simple designs. This will be a beginner’s class, with instructions on how to make a fox, dog, pig, heart, fish, and sailboat. In addition, Karissa Wikert, Friends Club Director, will show some of her photos from a recent trip to Japan. A native of Iowa City, Amanda’s career has primarily been in the entertainment and literary industries in Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York. Her love of art, education, and community involvement brought her back to Iowa to serve in this new position, where she educates herself on a period of art, an artist, or a craft and then shares that knowledge with the community. Seating is limited. Register with a Friends Club representative at 319-679-2103 or FriendsClub@HillsBank.com.
