filled person to make a good waiter or waitress for customers complain and find fault with the food and with the service. Those who are Spirit-filled will be gracious and kind and make every effort to please those whom they serve. May 13, 1951 IF I WERE MY PARENTS Col. 3:15-21; Eph. 6:1-4; Luke 11:9-13 Most of us have better hindsight than foresight. It is easy to look back over the way we treated our children and see the mistakes and faults. Chil dren should be reared in a godly at mosphere with a praying father and mother. The parents should seek to understand the various personalities of their children. They should have understanding hearts as to the con ditions under which the children work at school and should give wise coun sel and direction for the social life. Parents need to be vigilant in guard ing the children against evil compan ions and wicked influences. Parents Should Teach God’s Word To the Children Deut. 6:7 There is more or less of a tendency in young minds to revere and to hon or the Word of God. When it is read to them simply, plainly, and earnestly, children seem to love it. The reading of the Ten Commandments to the child usually has a very beneficial effect upon him. The story of God’s salvation as revealed in the Lord Jesus has a holy influence on the child’s life. Children usually respect the Bible and that respect should be deepened by the parents. There should be a family altar where the Word is explained to the children and where prayer is ob served. Parents Should Teach the Children To Pray Matt. 19:14 All children are God’s creatures but they are not all God’s children until they have been born again. The little ones should be taught that God will hear their voices and will be glad to listen to their petitions. As they are taught to pray and as they are taught the Word of God, they will one day find the Saviour and will trust Him with their souls. Prayer teaches the children the holiness of God’s pres ence and the need of His power. Prayer teaches the children their own impotence and God’s omnipotence. Prayer brings the children into true communion with God and this has a holy effect upon their minds and hearts.

STERLING COLLEGE Offers Christian Youth —

The fear of God is instilled in the minds of those who read the Ten Commandments. The holiness of God and the righteousness of God is re vealed through them. God’s thoughts about obedience and disobedience are made plain. The commandments warn against the wicked things that sinners love to do. These commandments are impressed upon the soul and have a restraining influence in the lives of those who are taught them in child hood. Children should know what God’s Word says about the common evils of the day. The Ten Command ments reveal God’s thoughts about these sins. Parents Should Take the Children To Church Mark 5:19 The church should be a meeting place for the family. In the church pews we should see the father, moth er, and the children. It is there that they will sing God’s songs together and hear of the glories of Christ Jesus and the blessedness of the Christian life. There they will be warned against Satan and the attrac tions of the world. There they will be face to face with the future and be urged to live useful, profitable lives bringing glory to God and help to their fellow-men. Churchgoers usually make the best citizens and the best neighbors. A godly home is a place of hos pitality, helpfulness, and happiness. It is the center of all the plans of the father, the mother, and the children. It is a place where comfort is given in time of sorrow and confidence is given in times of distress. The home should be characterized with sweet est devotion to all the members of the family. It should be a magnet to attract others who are godly and es pecially the companions of both par ents and children. Godly training should be a part of the home life as the family meets around the Word of God in the family altar. The Home Should Be Filled With Love Eph. 5:25 Love is a plant that must be culti vated. Many weeds of selfishness and discontent would crowd out this beau tiful flower. Little acts of kindness May 20, 1951 THE HOME I WANT Prov. 12:1-7; Matt. 7:24-29
