Growing Beyond the Startup Phase In the early years, Rubin approached projects similarly to traditional construction, focusing on custom residential work. But several years into the business, she recognized the limitations of scaling through site-built methods alone. “We got seed investment dollars to get into a factory so that we could truly build out what our product was made to do,” she says. “That way we could manage the quality. We could manage the actual product and we could start to figure out how to build at scale.”
