Eight years ago, the Board o f Directors of BIOLA ! College started a developmental program designed to I meet the needs of the BIOLA students eight years I hence. The easiest thing would have been to remain | in the cramped downtown facilities which the school I was then occupying. The easiest thing would have I been to maintain the curriculum of that time. I Everyone could have settled back and enjoyed the I “ easy life.” But a God-given vision was presented to I the Board of Directors and the administration of the j school. It was as though a very definite command had I been issued to go forward. To follow out the command meant untold hours I of hard work, planning, frustrations, delays and prob- I lems. But there was only one course to follow— and S that was to go ahead. The vision was brought into I reality when, in September, 1959, the school was' | moved to its new 15-acre campus. Some facili- ! ties, such as dormitories and classrooms, were built | to accommodate the student body as anticipated in l 1960. It was the mind of the Board to build additional I dormitories and classroom facilities only as the needs | should actually arise. That time has arrived. In fact, | during this current school year, almost two hundred 1 and fifty students are presently living in the down- | town location and must be transported daily to and \ from the campus in six chartered buses. Of course, I it would be quite easy to say “No” to these young ‘ people when they seek admission to BIOLA. But when ■ a young person says that he has prayed about where ’ he should attend school and feels very definitely that \ the Lord is leading him to come here, we are convinced 1 it is a'dangerous thing, indeed, to deny him admission. : W e feel that our responsibility is staggering, and [ were it not for the fact that it is our deep conviction \ that this is the Lord’s work, and that a great host of interested friends are backing us up by prayer and ; gifts, we would be completely overwhelmed by this | responsibilty which is ours. The young people are coming and will, no doubt, I continue to come in ever-increasing and challenging j numbers. Here are a few statistics concerning the ‘ population situation in Southern California, given : m erely by way of an illustration. The 1960 census | lists the population of the Los Angeles metropolitan I area as 6,900,000. Conservative estimates base the } expected population of this area in 1980, to be at * least 12,000,000. In 1960, there were 1,400,000 youth f in grades 1 to 12, of which 73,000 became eligible for | college in 1962. It is estimated that almost 115,000 l will be eligible for college in the fall of 1963. This ■ is only one local area. Statistics of the same proportion ' are reported almost everywhere. If BIOLA is to serve I the outstanding Christian young people from these
