ANOTHER HURDLE CLEARED FOR OLD PPG LAND REDEVELOPMENT

Redevelopment of the old PPG industrial property in Hawkesbury is almost ready to begin. Council approved a recommendation in a planning department report presented during Monday’s session that will allow changes to the Official Plan for the municipality and allow a redevelopment project to go ahead on the former industrial land. The numbered company, 8362505 Canada Inc. has secured approval from the .JOJTUSZPG&OWJSPONFOUGPSJUTEPDVNFOUB - tion that shows the site has undergone an environmental examination and cleansing to remove any trace of soil contaminants left behind from its past use as industrial property. The company has also completed noise and traffic studies, and included details in its development plan for dealing with those issues. The PPG site is located at 545 Industriel Boulevard, between County Road 17 and the intersection of Cartier Boulevard and Spence Avenue. The company plans to redevelop the land for a major residential area and a small commercial section. The residential portion will comprise 740 units, with a mixture of single-family, townhouse, and apartment building dwellings. securing ministry approval on the environ- mental review of the site and also deal with issues raised during the public hearing. Council approved the recommendation to allow for changes to Hawkesbury’s Official Plan and also zoning amendments to change the site from its industrial designation to
26 people attending and providing comments and questions on the project concept. The United Counties of Prescott-Russell (UCPR) has also reviewed the complany’s plan as part of its own Official Plan process. Both the UCPR and the Town of Hawkes- bury were waiting for the company to finish
residential and commercial that will allow the development project to proceed. The project will still remain subject to municipal approval of the final site plan and any other changes that the company may require as the development proceeds.
