ECOC 2020 CONFERENCE & EXPO

MARKET FOCUS One of the biggest attractions at the ECOC expo every year is inevitably the Market Focus. Now in its fourteenth successful year, the ECOC Market Focus has grown to become one of the focal points of the show and a popular platform to gain industry knowledge and insight into the latest technologies available. This year’s event will again feature a full speaker line up, covering everything from datacentres, photonics integrations and digital silicon photonics to fibre access, service and content provision, optical transmission, transportation sensing and 5G delivered by industry professionals. Market Focus, sponsored by Inphi, showcases the very latest news and developments from leading organisations within the fibre optics community. Last year’s Market Focus featured 30 presentations from some of the top names in the industry and attracted 3,600 visitors across the three- days. The call for speakers is now open and more details, including how to apply to speak, can be found on page 22.

ECOC AWARDS To celebrate 25 years of ECOC and the return to the exhibition’s spiritual home in Brussels, this year’s show will feature the ECOC Awards in conjunction with Optical Connections. The awards will celebrate the significant achievements that have been made in advancing the business of optical communications, transport, networking, fibre-based products, photonic integration circuits and related developments. feature area within the exhibition hall. Live demonstrations will also take place within the FTTx Centre including Air Blown Fibre Technology and Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network (GEPON), fibre blowing, microduct calibration and testing, fibre splicing and activation testing, as well as explanation and demonstration of key ISP and OSP equipment deployed in the modern FTTH networks. Exhibitors can also display products within the FTTx Centre free of charge. Find full details here. TRAINING ZONE A mixture of practical, hands-on sessions and expert advice, the Training Zone gives you the chance to cover some of the key techniques of fibre optic testing and fusion splicing. Run in conjunction with CTTS, our expert training team bring their years of industry experience to ECOC to share their knowledge. Small group sizes, with a maximum of 12 attendees per session, mean you get more one to one support, so you can ask questions and get advice and take away new skills that you can put to use back at your workplace. Sessions were fully booked in 2019, so make sure you secure your space early. You can book a space here.

The purifiers, which use a range of technologies to make them safe for use in public areas, are most commonly used to disinfect hospital rooms, operating theatres, ambulances and public transport. In a world first, Brussels Expo will be equipping every part of the 120,000 m2 venue with UV-C germicidal air purifiers, including the exhibition facilities, the Palais 12 concert venue, meeting rooms, offices, access corridors, backstage facilities and toilets. Earlier this year, organisers took the decision to reschedule the ECOC 2020 Conference and Expo to the new dates in December due to the Corvid-19 pandemic. This has proved to be a wise move as bookings for exhibition space and attendees have continued much as usual, while travel restrictions have been eased across Europe and other parts of the world. Thanks to the management and staff at the Brussels Expo venue however, further measures to create a
