Who Are You Grateful For?

Make Sure They Know

The season of Thanksgiving is a time to dwell on everything we feel grateful for, whether it be good health, a happy family, positive relationships, or a combination of all. If we’re fortunate enough to be born with these blessings, we might take them for granted. It’s only when they’re not there that we struggle. In the past, I know I’ve taken good health for granted. Going through some health challenges this year has been a reminder that I need to take care of the things I appreciate most. Dad” by Greg Vaughn. Greg lost his father to Alzheimer’s, and afterward, Greg was left searching for something that his father left behind, a message, token, or anything he could hold onto to remember his dad. In this void, Greg realized that if he died suddenly, his family would be left with little to show how much he cared for them. This realization prompted him to write letters to his wife, children, and other family members to express how much they mean to him. “Letters From Dad” brought home not only how much we have to be grateful for but also how important it is to let people know we love and appreciate them. Acknowledging blessings has been on my radar even more so after reading “Letters From The book made me think about my family and everything they mean to me. They are here for me through everything, and their love and support helps me surmount even the most daunting challenges. I hope to begin my own tradition of writing letters for them

this year. Oftentimes, it isn’t until we lose someone that we truly understand how much they mean to us. By then, it’s too late to tell them. I want to create a legacy for my children and their children so they know how much they mean to me. For my family and me, celebrating together and continuing our traditions are important parts of the holidays. Especially in the last several years, I’ve seen how our traditions can change and evolve with the seasons. Our daughter Danielle is in Boston, so she’ll travel to spend Thanksgiving with us this year. Our son recently got engaged, so we’re building new traditions as our family grows and enhancing our existing traditions. His fiancée is a sweetheart, and we are so excited to welcome her into our family. My wife and I are grateful to see our family grow. Last year, her family spent Thanksgiving with us, and we look forward to continuing that tradition this year and welcoming our son’s future in-laws into our family. We have deep gratitude for the blessings that growing our family brings.

In addition to Thanksgiving, Veterans Day is this month. I want to express my gratitude for our military and first responders. To all those who’ve served our country, thank you.

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. As you sit around the table with the people you love most, or as you talk over the phone if they’re far away, make sure you tell them how much they mean to you.

-Dr. Nagy

It might seem strange that November — when millions of Americans gather around the dinner table to show gratitude through lavish Thanksgiving feasts — has recently been dubbed Good Nutrition Month. But it’s true; now is the time to pay extra attention to the nutrients your body needs to maintain its healthy state through the new year. While mindful eating is a habit families know they should practice year-round, once the holiday season kicks into full gear, it becomes much easier to overlook. With colder weather keeping you inside, the cravings for heartier meals and delicious baked goods leave parents struggling to encourage their picky eaters to consume anything nutritious. If you’re finding it more difficult than usual to convince your child to eat their greens, here are some tips to keep in mind! 1. Let Them Help. If your child has grown out of the toddler stage and is still resistant to eating their vegetables, child psychologists say you should have them help with the cooking process. The excitement and anticipation that comes with getting to prepare the vegetables can encourage kids to try a couple bites during dinnertime. 2. Cheese It Up! Cheese can undoubtedly make veggies more appealing for your little ones. When making their favorite mac ‘n’ cheese dish, consider adding broccoli and peas to the sauce. The cheese will mask most of the veggie flavor, and your kids won’t care as much! Another option for really picky eaters is to purée vegetables, like sweet potatoes, into the cheese sauce. The bright orange color will mask the inclusion, ensuring your little one gets a good share of fiber-rich nutrients while being none the wiser. 3. Get ‘Beefy’ With Your Veggies. If your kids are fans of meat-based pasta sauces, meatballs, or sloppy Joes, you can substitute some of the ground beef with finely chopped mushrooms. Since the meaty texture of the tasty fungi is similar to ground beef, it’ll be hard for kids to notice the difference. Riced cauliflower can also be mistaken for tender ground beef when cooked in darker sauces and gravies. While it can be frustrating to negotiate with a picky eater, especially during the holidays, don’t lose hope. Try out these three tasty tips and observe Good Nutrition Month with a little more ease. 3 Tips to Get Your Picky Eaters to Eat the Veggies Their Bodies Need Get Ready for Good Nutrition in November!

Noah Is the Perfect Person for the Job Helping Patients Feel Welcome You’re probably familiar with the awesome team member we’re highlighting this month: Noah. As our patient ambassador, Noah greets patients as they come in and makes sure they have a great experience from the moment they walk through our doors. Thinking about the perfect person for this job, we couldn’t imagine anyone better cut out for it than Noah. His kind, welcoming personality is exactly what someone coming into the office needs. Noah enjoys his role in greeting people and helping patients feel welcome. Before joining the team, Noah was a patient of ours for many years. It’s fitting, then, that Noah has found a work environment that doesn’t just feel like another job. “This is like a family,” he says. Noah appreciates the nice, friendly people he gets to work with here. “I feel like I’m part of a family,” he says. Outside of work, Noah stays active by playing on various athletic teams. Right now, it’s the season for his favorite sport: basketball. He also participates in the Special Olympics, where he competes in basketball, volleyball, softball, swimming, and bowling. Noah enjoys doing puzzles, playing games, and hanging out with his friends too. For Thanksgiving, he’ll get together with family and friends to give thanks and enjoy a delicious meal. What food does he look forward to most? “My favorite is my grandma’s sweet potato dish,” he says.

You’ll see Noah here at Nagy Family Dental Group on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Say hi when you do. Noah will be happy to see you!

The Game A Tradition of Rivalry College football season is in full swing, and for us Ohioans, Nov. 30 will be one of the biggest days of the year. The annual matchup between our Ohio State Buckeyes and the Michigan Wolverines kicks off our Thanksgiving weekend. Affectionately referred to as “The Game” by true fans, Ohio and Michigan’s football rivalry is a hefty one. The two first met in 1897 and have been playing annually since 1918. It’s one of the longest-running sports rivalries in the nation, and the two schools are neck and neck with wins over each other. While Michigan does have more recorded wins over Ohio overall, the Buckeyes are currently on a seven-year winning streak. We have every faith they’ll make it eight this year! As a rivalry of proximity and fierce skill, this game always garners national interest. These two teams often determine the Big Ten Conference title and the resulting Rose Bowl matchup. It also influences the outcome of the league’s national championship, so naturally, we’ve got a lot riding on The Game.

Every time we at Nagy Family Dental Group tune in to watch, we’re pleased to see the players wearing mouthpieces to protect their teeth. It reminds us to urge you to keep your teeth safe when playing contact sports, just as you would any other part of your body. We offer custom mouthguards that are a comfortable fit and can reduce injury by up to 99%. Give our office a call for more details or to schedule a fitting. Whether you’re making the trek to Michigan to watch the game live or will be yelling at your TV screen like me, this Nov. 30, when you hear that fateful shout of “O-H” from somewhere in the distance, be sure to return it with a hearty “I-O!”

Go Buckeyes!
