Great Northern Launches ISTA 6 Test Laboratory

CLS was created with the aim of combining sustain- ability and cost reduction, knowing that reducing pro- cess waste is one of the greatest economic and indus- trial challenges.The products eliminate the problem of the liner disposal (which even becomes a lamination of the label) once and for all. Flying Fish flavored beer is the first product on the SAB market to“wear” linerless labels.The project start- ed in 2017 and entered a pilot phase in the fourth quarter of 2018. Large-scale production started inApril 2019. A period of commercial testing was then com- pleted.At the end of the testing and control phase on the Flying Fish beer labeling line, the Core Linerless Solutions technology will be extended to the entire SAB product portfolio, allowing the Group’s environ- mental impact to be reduced by 57 tons of waste per year, in South Africa alone. First Smyth Facility Achieves SGP Certification Smyth Companies, Bedford, Virgina, has been certi- fied as an SGP Printer by The Sustainable Green Print- ing Partnership.This is Smyth Companies’ first location to become an SGP certified printer.

Great Northern Corp.,Appleton,Wisconsin, has add- ed an ISTA 6 test lab at its Appleton location.The ISTA 6 lab, operated by in-house certified ISTA technicians, allows customers to test the integrity of their existing packages, and pre-determine if new packages are opti- mally designed for e-commerce and other applications. The new test lab will service Great Northern custom- ers from all locations and business units. The test lab exposes packages and loaded pallets to automated tests that simulate anticipated condi- tions and potential hazards that could be encoun- tered throughout the supply chain and distribution channels. A series of ISTA 6 standard tests will sim- ulate drop, impact, compression and vibration. The rigorous testing will challenge package integrity, structure and its ability to withstand potential im- pacts and motions.
