According to the CEO, the informational sessions raised strong concerns regarding community fragmentation. «We are dealing with three broad categories of landowners: people in municipalities, suburban residents, and the agricultural community. It pained me to hear claims that we would divide municipalities and sever land so that people couldn’t get around; that is completely false,» he insisted, emphasizing that Alto is seeking the lowest-impact route to prevent disruptions. Next steps Imbleau explained that the first consulta- tion phase focused on a study area roughly 10 kilometers wide. Those consultations have led to the identification of a revised corridor several hundred meters wide, which will be released this fall. ALTO will follow up with geotechnical analysis to pinpoint the exact 60- to 65-meter right-of-way required for acquisition throughout 2027–2028, leading up to the start of construction in 2029. Alto also expects to release preliminary details for the Toronto–Ottawa route by spring 2027. Citizen Pushback Approached for comments following these recent developments, the non-parti- san citizen coalition ALTNO stated that the federal promoter is still failing to provide clear answers to residents. For the coalition, touting consultation metrics and construction milestones does not address real on-the-ground concerns. ALTNO reminds decision-makers that public consultation must not simply be a procedural requirement on the way to a predetermi- ned outcome, but a transparent process anchored in meaningful scrutiny and genuine accountability. “The government is racing ahead with billions in taxpayer dollars while rural communities are being asked to sacrifice their land, livelihoods and futures. ALTNO is demanding proof that this project is worth the cost—because once these communities are torn apart, there is no putting them back together,» said ALTNO spokesperson Kathleen O’Connell.

According to the Township, the chatbot was developed in response to the volume of information available on its website, which can sometimes make it difficult for residents to find what they need quickly. Although REMLI is intended to provide answers and guide users, some inquiries may still require assistance from municipal staff. The Township emphasizes that the chatbot is designed to complement existing services, not replace direct communication with its team. Residents who cannot find the information they need or require further assistance can email general@russell.ca or contact the appropriate municipal department. REMLI is now available directly through the Township of Russell’s website.
