Book Reviews...

Click is one of those guys that just needs a little help from his friends.

“Many students get lost in the search for friends. Help them learn what friendship really means as they journey with Click in Superfish. It’s almost like Finding Nemo, but Click was finding himself. As an extra plus, Superfish is the perfect book for budding young scientists. This is an excellent book on all levels. Your child will love it!” -- Dr. Lynn Seifert, Principal, Central STEM Magnet School “Superfish is a delightful story full of imagery and depth of message. What a great way to open up conversation with your child as Click meanders through difficult situations. Learning how to understand the difference between perception and reality is challenging for adults, let alone a child. Click’s journey is a wonderful way to help children to discover that they are not alone in this world. There is a higher power who always helps to firm up their foundation.” --Debra Keenan, Co-Owner of Keenan Group, Inc., Editor/Publisher of Let’s Talk News! , an educational resource “In a culture that is constantly trying to force young people into a certain model, SUPERFISH serves as a gentle reminder that identity is not found in our appearance or behavior...identity is all about WHO we are and WHOSE we are. This educational, playful, and colorful tale will encourage your child to enjoy the journey of life, embrace diversity, and make new friends. You’ll have a blast reading it together!” -- Carlo Serrano, PhD (ABD), Teaching Pastor, oneChurch.tv “Young and old alike can go to ‘school’ and learn from the adventures of Click, the SUPERFISH. His heart-warming journey from being foolish to wise is one we can all learn from!” --Fred MacKrell, Published Author and Songwriter “SUPERFISHcan be enjoyed not only by youngsters, it is written well enough to be enjoyed by grown- ups. The chapters open with lines that capture your interest and end with a list of questions and learning lessons. Take time to read this book to your small children, get one for your school students, and be sure and read it yourself. You can’t help but be blessed.” --Jim Monday, Retired Newspaper Editor, Reporter, and Columnist for 51 Years

Unfortunately, he doesn’t have any. Low on social skills, but big on imagination, he sets out as SUPERFISH to save the world, one fish at a time. His journey introduces him to some colorful characters like lionfish, tiger sharks, leafy sea dragons, flying fish, and a mysterious voice helping him to gain an understanding of himself and others. SUPERFISH is a family reading book with fun illustrations for younger members, yet a more mature vocabulary and topics to engage teens and parents. Questions at the end of each chapter are sure to prompt great dinner table or family night discussions.

Chapter 1 – New Friends?? _________________________________ his is the story of Click, a whitebelly spinner dolphin. Dolphins have few natural enemies - sharks and fishermen mainly. Unfortunately for Click, he didn't have many natural friends, either. Another spectacular summer day dawned over the Caribbean Sea. Brilliant rays of sunlight bore through the transparent waters. Click shook off his morning drowsiness with determination that this day would be different. He was eager to make new friends – maybe too eager. Looking around, he spied a school of tiger sharks. Click swam up, raised his flipper, and invited, “Give me some fin.” The tiger sharks flashed looks at each other. If they had eyebrows, they would have raised them. “I’m game,” said the largest and scariest of the group. He swam toward Click and raised his pectoral fin to meet Click’s. “My name’s Jag, who are. . .” “Up high - down low - too slow,” Click wise-cracked as he lifted his flipper up, down, and away, causing Jag to slap water instead of fin. “Ha ha! Maybe I’m just too cool to swim in your school,” Click chuckled as he casually swam on past the shocked pack of predators. T

46 Stinky turned and asked, “What’s superficial mean, Jaggy? I was last in my class in shark school, ya know.” “At least you’re smart enough to ask when you hear something you don’t understand,” Jag replied. “Superficial is what you call someone who can’t look beyond the surface or appearance of things. She’s saying that Click can only see ‘fin deep.’” “Ha ha, ‘fin deep.’ You’re a scream, Jaggy.” Chompella looked over at the two and snobbishly rolled her eyes. While Click was busy showing off, Chompella snickered and commented to her cohorts, “I’ve met a lot of shallow-minded sea creatures in my day, but that dolphin has to be the most superficial of them all.”
