The Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award is given to one player every year. The player being recognized is awarded for their outstanding charity and volunteer work for numerous communities. The award was established in 1970, and each NFL team is able to nominate a single player. I love how this award connects a sport which people love and assisting their community. This also sets a great example for younger generations and what they should do. The NFL player that wins, receives a total of $1 million dollars that is to be donated in their name. However, even if you are not a NFL player, you should strive to donate and/or volunteer to help communities better themselves. Help Your Community... by Bobby
Rick Amburgey - This is my second year of teaching at CCCHS and my eighth year of teaching overall. I love writing and literature. My job is extremely rewarding and I have an opportunity to pass my love for literature and writing on to my students. I am proud to live and work in Cheatham County.
Bobby is our CONNECTOR - Bobby is in the 12th grade and believes everybody connects with something. “If you can find common ground to connect with kids, you can have a significant impact on whether they decide to make good or bad decisions for their communities.”
Editor’s note: Prior to 1999, it was called simply the NFL Man of the Year Award. Shortly after Chicago Bears running back Walter Payton died (having been the 1977 recipient himself), the award was renamed to honor his legacy as a humanitarian. Each year, a winner is selected from 32 nominees from the 32 different teams.

of those around you…perfection always seems to be the ultimate goal. But what is perfection? Perfection is all about how YOU see yourself. A lot of times, people get distracted by “flawless” celebrities and want to be just like them; however, the only person you can be is yourself. Be the best image of yourself there ever will be and do not let photos of others discourage your natural beauty. After all, a beach covered in trash is still a beach. It just needs a little love.
What do you see when you look in the mirror? Do you see someone beautiful or do you wish to change the person looking back at you? Today, many people struggle with their self appearance. It all has to do how society has decided to label what is “perfect” and what is “flawed”. We give in to these lies and convince ourselves they are right. Have you ever seen a celebrity and thought, “If only I looked like that?”. These things can cause people to create a very distorted personal outlook and result in an extremely low self-esteem. Destinee is our CONVINCER - Destinee is in the 9th grade at CCCHS and loves to write. Her favorite part about writing is getting to share her opinion while encouraging others to do the same.
