life of a Christian than his first enthusiasm. He realizes that God is and is a rewarder of them that seek after Him. He knows that his sins are forgiven. He is free from the burden of his guilt. Life has taken on a new meaning. Through Jesus Christ everything has been conquered. He is full of courage, faith and zeal . . . That first love can be retained only by study, prayer and work. “Without faith it is impossible to please him.” “Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” “Faith without works is dead.”—J. H. M c C aleb . MAY 25 A New Anointing "I shall be anointed with fresh oil” (Psa. 92:10). The need among Christians today is not for any new truth, but rather for a fresh application of old and familiar truth to the heart with quickening power. No new Pentecost is required, for the Pentecost of Acts 2 was once for all and sufficient, just as Christ “offered one sacrifice for sins for ever.” The descent, the baptism of the Spirit, is an accomplished fact, and it con stitutes an ample and abiding source of spiritual unction and power for all believers and for all time. But we must come again and again to have our vessels refilled, our spiritual power replenished, and thus to experience a renewal of Pentecost, so to speak, in our own souls. — R obert H all G lover . MAY 26 His Fullness "And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace” (John 1:16). Whatever blessing is in our cup, it is sure to run over. There is no grudging in God’s benevolence!—F. B. M eter . MAY 27 O u r Saviour-Creator “God . . . hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son . . . by whom also he made the worlds" (Heb. 1:2). The best thing is to go from nature’s God down to nature; and if you once get to nature’s God, and believe Him, and love Him, it is surprising how easy it is to hear music in the waves, and songs in the wild whisperings of the winds; to see God every where in the stones, in the rocks, in the rippling brooks, and hear Him everywhere, in the lowing of cattle, in the rolling of thunder, and in the fury of tempests. Get Christ first, put Him in the right place, and you will find Him to be the wisdom of God in your own experience. — C harles H addon S purgeon . MAY 28 One Desire "One thing have I desired of the Lord, that w ill I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life” (Psa. 27:4). One thing I have desired, that will I
