$.22 per square foot per year in energy-related operating expenses when compared to the average industrial build- ings in the same markets. This is an equivalent of an average 20% savings, much of which is passed to tenants in the form of lower utility costs. “By continued collaboration with ENERGY STAR, Lib- erty Property Trust is helping Americans save money, save energy, and do their part to re- duce our nation’s greenhouse gas emissions that exacerbate climate change,” said EPA Ad- ministrator Gina McCarthy .

“I’m proud to recognize Liberty with the highest form of EN- ERGY STAR recognition, as the winner of the 2016 Part- ner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award. Liberty demonstrates a strong com- mitment to energy efficiency and to preserving a healthy planet for future generations.” More than a Dozen Years of Energy Star The 2016 Partner of the Year - Sustained Excellence Awards are given to a variety of organizations to recognize their contributions to reduc- ing greenhouse gas emissions

through superior energy ef- ficiency. These winners have reduced greenhouse gas emis- sions by setting and achieving aggressive goals, and employ- ing innovative energy effi- ciency approaches. These awards recognize ongoing leadership across the ENERGY STAR program, in- cluding energy-efficient prod- ucts, services, new homes, and buildings in the commercial, industrial, and public sectors. Award winners are selected from the 16,000 organizations that participate in the EN- ERGY STAR program.

ENERGY STAR was intro- duced by the U.S. Environ- mental Protection Agency in 1992 as a voluntary market- based partnership to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through increased energy effi- ciency. Today, ENERGY STAR offers businesses and consum- ers energy-efficient solutions to save energy, money, and help protect the environment for future generations. 16,000 organizations are ENERGY STAR partners committed to improving the energy effi- ciency of products, homes, and buildings. n

cellence Award. The award, the third consecutive win for the company acknowledges Liberty’s continued leader- ship in protecting the envi- ronment through superior energy efficiency. In addition, the company has earned the designation “ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year” for the fifth consecutive year. Since 2003, Liberty has received ENERGY STAR cer- tification on 145 office and industrial buildings and has increased its average Energy Star score from 55 to 77 since its 2008 benchmarking. With an aggressive campaign fo- cused on high-impact energy efficiency upgrades, Liberty doubled its number of ENER- GY STAR certified warehouses and distribution centers in 2015. “Energy efficiency should not be limited to office build- ings, and while we should certainly not stop trying to be as efficient a possible there, we believe it is just as impor- tant to be forward thinking about industrial buildings,” said Bill Grayson , director of sustainability at Liberty. “We are very excited and honored to be recognized both through the ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence and Partner of the Year Awards.” The company is the top real estate investment trust (REIT) in terms of ENERGY STAR warehouse and indus- trial certifications and has rapidly entered the top cohort of overall companies certify- ing warehouse and industrial buildings in the nation. Coupled with Liberty’s com- mitment to LEED in the indus- trial sector, ENERGY STAR measurement also underscores that the company has some of the most energy-efficient industrial space on the mar- ket. Based on energy models, commissioning and ENERGY STAR benchmarking, Liberty’s LEED-certified buildings save tenants an average of $.11-
