Check out the BracePlace! Spotlight on Technology: WalkAide comes to HOP

In addition to expansion and credentialing, we’ve been able to offer the innovative and unique WalkAide device. This component uses an electrical stimulation device to take the place of a bulky ankle foot brace. While the electrodes replace the clunky and sometimes heavy old style brace, they offer the same level of functionality for patients with brain or spinal disease or trauma.

For patients suffering with foot drop (also called dropfoot), the weakness or paralysis of the muscles used to lift the foot from the floor. Footdrop makes it difficult for the person to life up the foot from the floor while walking—as a result the foot either drags behind or is lifted too high while walking. There is no age or gender that is more likely to get dropfoot; it occurs as a result of an illness or injury to the brain. WalkAide can help reduce the amount of difficulty a person with foot drop has being mobile and getting around, increasing their independence and ability to perform the tasks of daily living.

The WalkAide is specifically designed to assist patients with foot drop due to spinal or brain diseases or trauma; some of the patients helped by WalkAide include those suffering from or afflicted by:

• Spinal Cord Injury • Stroke (CVA) • Multiple Sclerosis (MS)

• Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) • Cerebral Palsy (CP)

By offering the WalkAide device, HOP hopes to help those in our community suffering from brain illness or injury resume a more active and independent lifestyle.

ABC Certification for Providers and Facilities

We’re proud to have both facilities fully certified by the American Board of Certification. In order to be certi- fied, providers and facilities have to meet stringent quality and care standards and provide top level care for patients and clients. Both Roger Howard and Sara Bremley are indi- vidually certified by the ABC; both our main and satellite offices have been certified as well.
