David: “Ah, that’s funny. So sorry all that happened. I just wanted to tell you I’ve been following your success and I’m really proud of you. I had no doubts about where you were going. I wish it hadn’t gone the way it did, but I’m thinking maybe it happened exactly the way it was supposed to.”

Dean: “Thank you, David, that means a lot to me.”

David: “How about you come out to L.A.? I’d love to catch up with you.”

I flew out to LA. I went to his office with a completely new perspective. I walked through that door not feeling intimi- dated anymore. Now I felt accomplished.We embraced and caught up and jumped in his Range Rover and he droveme to his house, and then droveme to property that he owned on top of the Hollywood Hills that used to be owned by a prince, and asked for my advice on what he should do with that property. It was at that moment I realized that it was all part of the plan. It was part of paying my success tax. It was part of building the grit, themuscle it takes to be successful. It was a part of learning how to take underdog disadvantages, and make them empowering advantages in my life.
