From my earliest memories, I remember my great Uncle Larry askingme what I wanted to do after college. My reply, for years, had been, “I am not going to college, I am going to start my own business and be a millionaire so I can take care of my Mom.” That’s exactly what I said every time. And he would have the same half-ass sarcastic, patronizing reply, “Ah, isn’t that cute, but that’s not the way it works Dean. You’ll realize that soon enough.” Over the years he’d been lecturing me about going to col- lege, and to be honest, it woreme down. It was always sorta depressing because, quite honestly, I sucked at school and I hated it. I was in the special ed reading class for god’s sake, how would I ever go to college? I always left discussions with him feeling a little bit like a loser. Well, this one time, things were different. I was probably fifteen or so and feeling a little bit of confidence. I’d been working with my dad every day at his auto body shop, and I learned some things about business. My drive for success was off the charts and I was finding new ways to move for- ward faster than expected. I’d come up with some ways for the business to bemore organized and run faster, I’dmade some money, and I realized I was pretty decent at it. I saw a future there.
