What they are missing is inner, driving, and ongoing moti- vation. They are missing the underdog state of mind.

When you get to the top and you become privileged, every- one celebrates you. Everyone wants to associate with you. You’re a winner. It’s great. The problemwith this is that now no one tells you the truth. Everyone thinks, because you’re the winner, that you are amazing and nothing you do is wrong. They stop telling you the truth. This might sound cool, but it’s a disaster in themaking. It’s a funny thing—the more successful you become, the less attached to reality you are, but the more necessary it is to know the reality of the situation so you can stay on top. This has happened to hundreds of bands. It’s why there are so many “one-hit wonders” in music. Once you break through, and have a big hit, you become the privileged.
