readings in the Book o f Romans and Hebrews the past month. At Reward our Sunday School goes on nicely. Over a hundred young men from this section have gone to war. The last time we preached there we saw an old couple in tears after we prayed for the boys who .have left for the war. It made me sad, and leads me to say that our own son has been called. . We dedicated him to the Lord when he was born, and a few years ago he was soundly converted and says he is glad to go, as he feels it is God’s will and he is going to work for the Lord among the boys. He attended the Institute and says he will always thank God for what Dr. Torrey'and Mr. Hunter and Mr. Hor ton gave him, and is going to lean on the dear Lord. This is very comforting, but it .is hard to part with him. May the Lord help us all to realize how ^short the time is, and to be faithful in our every-day walk and conversation.
At Cameras we get the Associated Pipe Line people, as w ell' as the Producers’ Transportation- and Doheny leases and Bellridge camps. There are a lot of men' here, but hard to reach. Open-air meetings are held at Lost Hills. This little town is cursed with seven saloons and, the poor fellows ■lie around drunk right after pay day. One superintendent told me he had to shut down nearly every pay day because his men were drunk. A Sunday School has been started there and we preach about once a month. At McKittrick we are having a little success and hold a service every Sunday morning. We held open air services,, and they certainly did good and made some peo ple come out who never camp before. They seem glad to hear the Word of God. W e get a warm welcome at the Asso ciated Pipe Line at Olig. There are some real Christians there and it is refreshing to meet them. Have been holding Bihle

SAN QUENTIN PRISON
By John W . Dunlap
I COUNT it a great privilege to be per mitted to go, to the San Quentin Prison. Some o f the most earnest ■Christians I have met are among the saints within the gray walls. It seems to mean more to a man to be a Christian in such a place, for he cannot get away from his fellow pris oners, and if he is a sham they soon find him ou t., On a recent visit, I had no sooner entered the door o f the chapel than I was greeted by a member o f the Bible Class, who had a case “that just couldn’t wait.” He was dealing with one who had been led away into “ Science,” falsely so called. He had his man about landed, and after a few words and prayer the fellow came
out clearly, offered a sincere prayer and thanked his fellow prisoner for showing him the truth. The attractiveness of God’s Word is shown by the fact that the attendance keeps well up to an average o f forty, when often moving-pictures and other attractions are in operation at the same hour. At the close o f today’s class the following question was put to the men: “Is there a man here who is not a Christian ?” In response, a- Hebrew arose and proclaimed his nationality. He was questioned concerning his hope in the Messiah, and promised to search the Scrip tures.
