It is not there now, but at that time it was a very beautiful place. Flat-roofed white houses on the green hillsides, the orange groves, the beautiful flowers, the blue lake, and the purple mountains, made it just the kind o f a place where a boy would like to live. But there was one young man who lived in this city who did not know what a beautiful place it was; for he had never seen any o f these things. No, not even his mother’s face. He was blind. Many o f the people in this little town had seen or heard the wonderful things that the Lord Jesus had been doing as He went about the country. When the Master nnd His friends were travelling toward Caper naum after He healed the deaf man, of whom we talked last week, they came through this little town. Some one who loved this blind man brought him to Jesus. There were many people crowding around,
not because they loved the Lord Jesus, but just to see what He would do. He took the young man by the hand and walked with him, away from the people, outside the city, and there with no one but God, He touched the man’s eyes. You and I know that “Hd hath done all things well.” Some know what happened;—the man’s eyes were opened so that he could see. The first thing he ever saw was the face o f the Lord Jesus. W e hope that he always saw in the better way. Tell me some o f the things that would make him think o f God and His great love for him. Perhaps the man thought it was worth waiting all those years, to be able to see in this better way, for this is the only way that Jesus can open eyes, because “ He doeth all things well.” Prayer .—Thank Him that the mountains, the stars and all things tell us o f His love.
-------------- O JESUS TRANSFIGURED APR IL 21, 1918. LESSON III. Mark 9:2-29. Parallel Passages: Matt. 17:1-13; Luke 9 :28-36. G olden T ext : “ This is my beloved S on : hear ye Him.”—Mark 9 :7.
THE LESSON
2 . And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into a high mountain apart by themselves : and he was transfigured before them. 2 - And his raiment became shin ing, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them. 4 . And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses : and they were talk ing with Jesus. 5 . And Peter answered and said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. 6 . For he wist not what to say; for they were sore afraid.
7 . And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. 8 . And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves. p. And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead. io. And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another What the rising from the dead should mean.
