THE KING’S BUSINESS BEGINNERS AND PRIMARY

By Mrs. A. L. Dennis. {The Little Child in the Arms o f Jesus.)

A/T EMORY VERSE : Psalm 136:1: “ O, give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good.” Preparation .—How many o f you little folks know what you are going to have for dinner next Sunday? Aren’t you afraid you j might have to go without anything ? Why not? Oh, yes, mother sees to that, so we will not worry about the things we are to eat. What a pretty dress Mary has o n ! I wonder what kind she will wear next winter. Is she afraid she might not have any? No, her mother will attend to that. Sometimes we would like better things than mother and father are able to give us, but we are going to be happy and say, “thank you,” to them because all that they have for us comes from God. He loves ius and knows just what we need most. When we are ready for those better things He will send them. There may be some boys and girls who have no parents to see that they have food and clothes. All who know and love the Lord Jesus have the Heavenly Father. All things are His, and He is able to give us anything, but He always does just what is best for us. We can all sayj “ Oh, give thanks unto'the Lord for He is good.” Presentation.— The Lord Jesus and His friends were walking to Capernaum, their home. They had been away a long time. Since they left, the grain had ripened, been cut and put into barns. The hills were brown and dry. The figs and grapes and apples'were now ripe, and the leaves were turning yellow and falling to the ground. -Summer was ended, the days were chilly, so they were coming home for the winter. As they came along the road and saw the city, we know how it must have looked. (Have the children describe the city and

its vicinity, naming persons living there.) As they came into the city, the friends of the Lord Jesus talked among themselves of the time when He should be King. Some o f them felt they had done more than others, and they wondered if God would not give them more than the others. When they^came to the city, they went into a house. W e do not know whose it was. It might have been Peter’s, or the one in which the Lord Jesus lived with His Mother. When they were in the house, the Lord Jesus said to them, “What were you talking about as you walked along the way?” They did not answer Him, for they were ashamed. They knew now, that it was not right. He knew what they had been saying, so He sat down and called them about Him. Then He took a little child in His arms and told them something that meant this: “You must be like little children. They are happy with what their father gives them, for they know it will be what is best for them. Your Heavenly Father wants you to be busy and happy now. Do not take any o f your time think ing about what He will do for you after this. You know He will do just what is right. Those who are willing to do the little things please Him, as well as those who do the big things. I think after this when the friends of the Lord Jesus saw little children, they thought o f this day when He held the lit tle child in His arms and talked to them. Don’t you think it made them want to say, “O, give thanks unto the Lord, for He .is good.” ? ' ■ Prayer .—Thanking Him that we truly know “The Lord is good,” and is always giving us what He knows we need.
