On our wide-ranging History degree, you can explore more than 1,500 years of the past in Britain, Europe, the United States, and beyond. You’ll build the skills valued by employers across a range of sectors, while deepening your understanding of how the past has shaped the present.

You’ll gain a firm grounding in the approaches used by historians to understand and explain different aspects of the past across a wide range of periods. As your studies progress you’ll be able to focus more on the centuries, cultures, and kinds of historical change that interest you most. Our expert staff will guide you in examining themes such as politics, social change, gender, health and medicine, heritage, and war and peace. We also offer a wide range of programme combinations allowing you to study History with another subject. You can study the past outside of the lecture hall and the library, through field trips and study trip modules, and apply your knowledge in a work placement or year in industry. You can choose to spend a semester or a year abroad.
