Firearm, hunting, drug charges NEWS n ewroom@eap.on.ca During the week of September 10-17, Hawkesbury Ontario Provincial Police officers responded to 269 occurrences and laid 30 charges . Officers investigated four assaults, six break-ins and ten thefts, conducting 11 RIDE initiatives and laying one impaired driving charge. Accident leads to several charges An accident at 10 p.m. September 4 at County Road 14 and Con- cession 3 in East Hawkesbury Township led to several charges. The Investigation revealed that the driver lost control of his ve- hicle while trying to avoid deer that were crossing the road. The truck spun around and ended up in the ditch. The driver suffered minor injuries but the Dodge Ram pick-up was heavily damaged. Police also found a loaded shotgun, beer and traps in the vehicle. Dustin Harvey, 25, of Labrosse Street, St-Eugène, has been charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, breach of fire- arms regulations, possession of marijuana, unlawfully having a loaded firearm in a vehicle, illegal possession of a firearm at night and unlawfully having a body-gripping trap. He was also charged with driving with an invalid permit and driving with an open container of liquor. Anyone who is aware of illegal hunting practices is asked to call the Ministry of Natural Resources at 1-877-TIPS-MNR or the O.P.P. at 1-888-310-1122. Break-ins In the morning of September 15, officers were sent to the scene of a break and enter at a Hamilton Street, Hawkesbury residence, where the previous night, someone had gained access by break- ing through a window and stole tools. Constable Jean-Michel Cormier is investigating. September 15, shortly before 4 p.m., a break-in at the closed Econo Gas station at 4993 County Road 17 in Alfred-Plantagenet was reported. Constable Yan Faille is investigating the burglary during which the culprit broke a window and made off with clothing that was on display. Impaired driving charge September 16, at 8:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision on Bay Road in Champlain Township. A Mazda pick-up truck had hit a culvert in front a Bay Road residence. The noise alerted the residents who called police. As the officers arrived on scene to examine the wreckage, they met the driver who was walking around, suffering from minor injuries. Sébastien Ménard, 30, of Lajoie Street, Lefaivre was charged with impaired driving and dangerous operation of a mo- tor vehicle. Drug charge In the noon hour of September 13, police received information about persons smoking marijuana in an alley between two apart- ment buildings on William Street, consequently stinking up the neighborhood. Smoke was apparently getting into nearby resi- dences. Constable Luc Côté intercepted two males. Carl Burton, 44, of Union Street, Vankleek Hill was charged with possession of speed and marijuana.

The suspect, who had been browsing the store, activated the alarm system while exiting the pharmacy. She fled on a bicycle. The ensuing i n v e s t i g a t i o n revealed beauty products had been stolen from the store.
