Firearm, hunting, drug charges NEWS n ewroom@eap.on.ca During the week of September 10-17, Hawkesbury Ontario Provincial Police officers responded to 269 occurrences and laid 30 charges . Officers investigated four assaults, six break-ins and ten thefts, conducting 11 RIDE initiatives and la y ing one i m paired driving charge. Accident leads to several charges An accident at 10 p. m . Septe m ber 4 at Count y Road 14 and Con- cession 3 in East Hawkesbur y Township led to several charges. The Investigation revealed that the driver lost control of his ve- hicle while tr y ing to avoid deer that were crossing the road. The truck spun around and ended up in the ditch. The driver suffered m inor injuries but the Dodge Ra m pick-up was heavil y da m aged. Police also found a loaded shotgun, beer and traps in the vehicle. Dustin Harve y , 25, of Labrosse Street, St-Eugène, has been charged with unauthorized possession of a firear m , breach of fire- ar m s regulations, possession of m arijuana, unlawfull y having a loaded firear m in a vehicle, illegal possession of a firear m at night and unlawfull y having a bod y -gripping trap. He was also charged with driving with an invalid per m it and driving with an open container of liquor. An y one who is aware of illegal hunting practices is asked to call the Ministr y of Natural Resources at 1-877-TIPS-MNR or the O.P.P. at 1-888-310-1122. Break-ins In the m orning of Septe m ber 15, officers were sent to the scene of a break and enter at a Ha m ilton Street, Hawkesbur y residence, where the previous night, so m eone had gained access b y break- ing through a window and stole tools. Constable Jean-Michel Cor m ier is investigating. Septe m ber 15, shortl y before 4 p. m ., a break-in at the closed Econo Gas station at 4993 Count y Road 17 in Alfred-Plantagenet was reported. Constable Yan Faille is investigating the burglar y during which the culprit broke a window and m ade off with clothing that was on displa y . I m paired driving charge Septe m ber 16, at 8:15 p. m ., officers were dispatched to a m otor vehicle collision on Ba y Road in Cha m plain Township. A Mazda pick-up truck had hit a culvert in front a Ba y Road residence. The noise alerted the residents who called police. As the officers arrived on scene to exa m ine the wreckage, the y m et the driver who was walking around, suffering fro m m inor injuries. Sébastien Ménard, 30, of Lajoie Street, Lefaivre was charged with i m paired driving and dangerous operation of a m o- tor vehicle. Drug charge In the noon hour of Septe m ber 13, police received infor m ation about persons s m oking m arijuana in an alle y between two apart- m ent buildings on Willia m Street, consequentl y stinking up the neighborhood. S m oke was apparentl y getting into nearb y resi- dences. Constable Luc Côté intercepted two m ales. Carl Burton, 44, of Union Street, Vankleek Hill was charged with possession of speed and m arijuana.
