Love of the Game Set Builder Auction - Winter, 2023

23. 1909-11 T206 Fred Clarke (HOF - Portrait) - PSA VG-EX+ 4.5

24. 1909-11 T206 Eddie Collins (HOF) - PSA VG-EX 4

Slicked back hair set against a crimson red background is how Fred Clarke was depicted on his T206 portrait card, no doubt after running some hot comb oil through his thinning locks. Clarke had an extensive major league career and was an early inductee into the Hall of Fame in 1945. He was a teammate of Honus Wagner for 19 seasons! This PSA 4.5 has some mild obverse product staining and the lower right corner has a slight ding. Sitting on a Sweet Caporal 350 Factory 30 reverse, this is a card with a bold look. MINIMUM BID: $250

Eddie Collins was still a young buck when T206 was issued but already a key member of Connie Mack’s powerhouse teams of the mid-teens. He looks almost impossibly youthful here but was well on his way to Cooperstown by 1909. The red color pass has shifted a bit noticeably to the right and is vibrant and deep on this PSA 4, which has a nice Piedmont 350 Factory 25 reverse. MINIMUM BID: $300

25. 1909-11 T206 Brown Hindu Fred Clarke (HOF - Holding Bat) - PSA VG-EX+ 4.5 Fred Clarke (with bat) appears here on a PSA 4.5 card with a lot going for it. The pastel blue sky, abstract trees and stippled grass give this subject a unique look, and the image remains bright. In addition to all those wonderful things, the reverse is a Brown Hindu, one of the most desirable backs in the entire series and it looks stellar here. The factory cut exhibits a slight tilt, nothing too distracting, and the card image itself is clean and appealing. MINIMUM BID: $1,000
