ALEXIA MARSILLO alexia.marsillo@eap.on.ca

As the regular season has offi- cially ended, the Rockland Nats prepare to take on the Carleton Place Canadians in the first round of playoffs. Nats vs. Hawks The Nats ended their season with two away games, the first being in Hawkesbury against the Hawks on Friday, March 9. The Nats lost 5-3 after a tremendous first period from the Hawks. Although Nats’ Alex Robert scored the first goal of the game, barely a minute in, the Hawks dominated the first period by scoring three goals. Mike Nantais and Kieran Craig scored back-to-back goals for the Hawks, halfway through the second period, leaving the score 5-1 going into the third. The Nats picked up the pace in the third period, but it was too little too late. Connor Beatty and Dallas Maurovic each scored a goal early in the third for the Nats, but the score still ended 5-3 for the Hawks. The Hawks finished their season second in the Junior hockey fans in Saint- Isidore and Clarence Creek can look forward to more home team action to cheer on as round two begins in the National Capital Junior Hockey League playoffs series. The Saint-Isidore Aigles flew away with the win to earn themselves a place in the second round of the NCJHL playoffs after holding up the Cumberland Bandits, March 7, in the seventh deciding game of their elimination round series. The Wednesday night winner-take-all match at the Ray Friel Recreation Complex in Cumberland finished 4-2 for Saint-Isi- dore with the Aigles scoring in every single period. Jacob Belanger popped in a pair of goals for Saint-Isidore with Jeremy Arbour and Ryan Wells finishing off the score. The Bandits got the first goal of the game in first period and managed a second goal in third period. However, the home team could not get the puck in the net at all during the second-period play. The Saint-Isidore players enjoyed a short break before starting their second round in the NCJHL playoffs schedule with last Friday’s game in Chesterville against the North Dundas Rockets. Saint-Isidore edged out a 3-2 win over North Dundas that night, with a pair of goals from Nicholas Souligny and one from Patrick Ranger. The Aigles ended up grounded with a 3-0 loss in the Sunday rematch on the Rockets’ home ice. Tied at one game apiece as of press time, the Aigles and the Rockets were scheduled for their third encounter in the series Tuesday night, March 13, at the Saint-Isidore Arena, with the Aigles keeping the home ice advantage Thursday night in the fourth scheduled game of the series.
