Momentum Solar, New Jersey’s fastest growing renewable energy installer relocated its headquarters to Metuchen. Rebranded; this sleek, mixed use office is not bound by walls, but defined by space. Modern lines and super graphics break traditional boundar- ies exemplifying the company’s business model for exponential growth. A collaborative reception/lounge is composed of a carefully planned arrangement of high end custom millwork set off by an asymmetric design. Splashes of color assist in wayfinding while decorative lighting anchors scale and proportion. The open area boasts an exposed deck with colorful sound baffles and an implied ceiling that tease the exaggerated window line. The best part of any great project is always the people who make it happen. Rebrand- ing a company with a new image and a fresh, modern space can provide a distinct and exciting opportunity to push the envelope. In this case, we were dealing with a blank slate; aligning an idea with the space where that new idea can flourish…it’s what we as designers do, we love it. But when the opportunity with Momentum arose, it was the personalities and the desire of the ownership that allowed this job to explode into a favorite of mine. The client wanted to create place where a team would form, a power- ful, supportive unified force that was proud of their environment, and I couldn’t be more proud of our role in providing a fun, unique space that would turn into a home for their new mission statement
A 20th century paint factory is transformed into a 21st century idea factory. This building is the centerpiece of a new, twenty-three acre campus at the University of Pennsylvania dedicated to entrepreneurship and innovation. While most of the building is occupied by state-of-the-art labs and efficient co-working areas, key social spaces tempt entrepreneurs to leave their desks and engage with their colleagues. These spaces are tucked into a new angular facade that reaches outward towards the Schuylkill River, featuring a bar, a board room, and bleacher seating where inventors can share ideas, pitch to investors, and gain crucial perspective. The building inspires creativity within, while simultaneously telling the world outside that Penn is a leader in the field of innovation. A collaborative enterprise among Hollwich Kushner (Design Architect), KSS Architects (Architect of Record), Land Collective, Bruce Mau Design, Ballinger, Atelier Ten, Focus Lighting, and Hunter Roberts. Named WIRED’S list of 25 Masterpieces that Prove 2016 was an Incredible Year for Architecture, named by FAST.CO as one of the Best Office De- signs of 2016, named by REDSHIFT as one of the 10 Most Innovative Architectural Proj- ects of 2016, named in Curbed Philadelphia’s list of the Best New Architecture and Urban Design of 2016, received an honorable mention in ARCHITECT’S NEWSPAPER 2016 Best of Design Awards, winner of CREW Philadelphia’s 2016 Community Impact Award.
