A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 12

The Year 12s have now completed another week of mock examinations and are due to finish today. I have been so impressed with their positive attitudes and their behaviour has been impeccable. A reminder that mocks are there to enable students to gain more experience of writing in a controlled environment under timed conditions. Each mock period should make the experience less daunting in preparation for the real exams. Some more good news for Luke R in 12AMZ who entered the 24th Christopher Tower Poetry Competition run by Christ Church College, University of Oxford. Luke was one of 13 students selected from over 1,700 applicants to attend the award ceremony and his poem on the theme ‘Mirror’ received a highly commended prize. Well done Luke for getting involved in so many supra-curricular activities! Next week Year 12 are involved in an Enrichment and Progression week designed to inform them on Post-18 options. There are a variety of activities planned including writing a personal statement, information on apprenticeships, managing student finance, talks on student life and Oxbridge preparation. I am looking forward to seeing the students make the most of these valuable sessions that have been planned for them. Students are under no pressure this year to make a firm decision about what they want to do, just to be equipped with the knowledge to eventually make an informed choice.

The week will finish with a trip to Thorpe Park which I’m sure they will appreciate after an intensive exam period.
