THE GOLDEN SON by Somaya Gowda Anil Patel’s life was planned for
him. As the eldest son of a large landowner in a small village in India, it was always expected that he would manage the farm and arbitrate disputes. When he began to develop academic talents, with his father’s encouragement Anil left his native India to study medicine in the United States. He finds himself in culture shock caught between two worlds as he begins his medical training. Gowda shines a light on women’s roles in India and the complex relationships in patriarchal societies.
