The Virginia Household Water Quality Program offers affordable, confidential water testing for people who rely on private wells and springs. Testing includes: bacteria, lead, copper, arsenic, iron, manganese, pH, hardness, sodium, sulfate, fluoride, and nitrate. We teach you how to collect a sample and provide the kit to do so. We then transport those to Virginia Tech for testing. When the results come back, we will help you navigate what’s next. The cost is $70 per sample kit, with some scholarship assistance available for limited-resource families. Contact Glenn Sturm, FCS agent, at gjsturm@vt.edu or call the Extension Office at 804-693-2602. What’s in your water?
