THE NATION COUNCIL SETS BUDGET MEETINGS

doesn’t expect a major change to the property assessment for 2024 as there has been no revaluation done by MPAC. The 2024 tax rate will be set by council’s guidelines. In addition, council mentioned that requests from the public regarding the 2024 budget will be accepted through writing or through The Nation’s social media pages. The details will be published soon, and written requests will be accepted until September 29. Following the first draft meetings on Octo- ber 16 and 17, a date for the second draft revision will be determined, and the official budget will be presented for adoption in the weeks following.
The Nation council will soon discuss the 2024 budget. The Nation municipal council has set its preliminary budget meetings, where it will see the first draft for the 2024 budget and go over any issues or edits. The budget meetings are currently set for October 16 and 17, from 1 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on both days. The meetings will take place at the Nation Town Hall, located at 958 Route 500 West in Casselman. According to the details discussed during the briefing, operating and capital budgets are currently being received from Heads of Departments to be reviewed by the CAO prior to being integrated into the first draft. They will also be reviewed by the Manage- ment Committee and discussed with each department head. Council also stated that it

En réponse à de nombreuses plaintes concernant la vitesse de circulation dans La Nation, le conseil étudiera la possibilité d’acheter un détecteur de vitesse et d’utiliser ses données pour justifier l’installation de ralentisseurs afin d’atténuer les excès de vitesse. Au cours des dernières semaines, le conseil municipal de La Nation a reçu plu- sieurs plaintes de citoyens préoccupés par la vitesse de la circulation dans la municipalité. Selon Joanne Bougie-Normand, adjointe au directeur, plusieurs personnes demandent l’installation de ralentisseurs sur les routes afin de ralentir la circulation. « À l’heure actuelle, nous ne disposons pas de l’outil approprié pour enregistrer la vitesse des véhicules ni d’une politique en place pour soutenir l’installation de dispositifs de modération de la circulation destinés à ralentir la vitesse des véhicules dans la municipalité », a déclaré Mme Bou- gie-Normand dans son rapport. « Dans un premier temps, nous devons acheter un détecteur de vitesse que je prévois d’inscrire au budget de 2024. Avec ses données, nous établirons des déclencheurs et nous pourrons développer une politique pour ins- taller les ralentisseurs appropriés à chaque demande ». Le détecteur de vitesse a un coût d’environ 5 000 $ et sera discuté dans le cadre des réunions budgétaires. Ensuite, la politique d’utilisation des données pour justifier l’installation de ralentisseurs sera présentée au conseil au printemps prochain, selon Mme Bougie-Normand. Les plaintes reçues seront alors réexaminées.

Nous aurons également le show & shine pour ceux qui ne font pas de tire et qui veulent montrer leur tracteur. Chaque classe aura un prix en argent cette année. Tous les profits seront remis aux Chevaliers de Colomb.
This year, our 3rd tractor pulling event is dedicated to Mr. Pierre Lortie (late) from Bourget. IT’S BEEN 10 YEARS SINCE HE LEFT US. We will also have the Show & Shine for those who don’t participate in the pulling but want to showcase their tractors. Each class will have a cash prize this year. All the proceeds will be donated to the Knights of Columbus.
