OUTDOOR RESORTS EARLY DAYS by Rita & Jeff Kurth In July, 1985, I received a call from Outdoor Resorts of America for a free weekend in Palm Springs. Since I knew it was too hot to visit in July, I asked what was the last weekend that we could go there, and they said October.
Here is the rental paper from that weekend in October 1985.
On the last day we were driven around in a golf cart with the ORA Rep, Jim Cunnelly. It did not take long to see the lots since only Phase 1 was mostly complete except for the lots along the west wall. Phases 2 and 3 were still being constructed and Phase 4 was not started. Here is a page from the promotional information we were given showing Phase 1 and Resort as it looked like in 1985.

We really liked what we saw and decided to purchase lot 30 which had fallen out of escrow. We took possession on November 15, 1985. Here is the drawing of the lot dimensions. The first date we were able to use the lot was late 1985 and here is a picture of our lot at that time.
The Resort only had 9 golf holes open, and the starter was at the La Palma club- house. The crossroad that is there today was the end of the property with just a chain - link fence separating the property from the desert.
