R Raising Hy-line Hens Large Animal Pavilion (ground floor)

This year more than 20 school groups will showcase their Mother Goose skills in the Raising Hy-Line Hens competition. Students from as far as Nanango collected their hens in March this year and will present them at the Royal Queensland Show, to demonstrate their skills at raising these robust, brown feathered chickens. The schools are judged on their three best birds, the eggs collected and a project outlining how they reared the hens. Judging will take place in the Large Animal Pavilion on Saturday 17 August at 10am. Don Chandler (RNA Councillor in Charge) T 0407 110 320 S Sheepdog Trials Main Arena (L8) This year marks 125 years since the first Sheepdog Trial was held at the Royal Queensland Show in 1899. Just as sheepdogs have maintained their crucial role on properties, so to has this Ekka competition, which sees dogs judged on their cast, approach, bridging, obstacle and general work. This year seven dogs will demonstrate to the judges their close working relationship between them and their truste d best friends in the Main Arena on Sunday 11 August from 10am, with the finals taking place from 12pm. Ian Ferguson (Ring Master and Councillor in Charge) T 0410 319 449 W Woodchop and Sawing Woodchop Arena presented by AAM Australian titles will be up for grabs at the iconic Woodchop and Sawing Competition presented by AAM. Competitors will be vying for eight national titles including the in the 325mm Standing Block (4pm August 16), 350mm Underhand (3.40pm on August 15), 325mm Tree Felling (2pm on August 14), and Women's 275mm Underhand (4.15pm on August 11), and Jack and Jill 375mm Double Handed Sawing (3.25pm on August 10). Attracting crowds for more than a century, the Woodchop and Sawing Competition will take place across eight days of Show (10-17 August), this year with a prize pool worth more than $145,000.
