DAIRY COW FLOWER CROWNS Dairy cows will parade with their beautiful flower crowns to celebrate Ekka. Florist extraordinaire, Julia Rose, will create the special floral crowns for the cows. This is a quirky photo opportunity not to be missed! FLOWER AND GARDEN PRECINCT (H-13) FLOWER BEARD COMPETITION WHEN: 2pm August 16 Florists will decorate Brisbane's best beards in this People's Day tradition. Around 15 men will undergo a facial fuzz floral transformation, with judges crowning the competition winners. The quirky competition will be MC’d by well-known landscape architect Costa Georgiadis. The entrants will also be showcased in the Ekka’s iconic Grand Parade on the Main Arena at 4.30pm.

The Ekka’s traditional opening ceremony will be held on the first day of Show, to welcome Ekka guests from across the state. Rich in heritage and tradition, it includes a Welcome to Country performed by traditional owner Shannon Ruska, Blessing of the Plough, the sounds of the Australian Army Band Brisbane and more. The show will officially be opened by Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young PSM, Governor of Queensland. GRAND PARADE WHEN: 4.30pm August 16 More than 500 animals and competition winners will be on display in the highly anticipated Grand Parade, held on People’s Day. The parade features the champions of Ekka from the tiny Grand Champion Fish of Show to the huge Grand Champion Stud Bull, along with goats, dairy cattle, cats, dogs, horses, horticulture, Showgirl entrants and more. The iconic Grand Parade evolved from displays of livestock, especially after 1901 when a full parade of cattle and horses was held to welcome the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York. AIRTIME FMX MOTOCROSS WHEN: 12:40pm August 13, 12:30pm August 15 to 20 The Airtime Freestyle Motocross Team push the limits on what is possible. They will launch motorcycles high in the air while performing some of the most death defying stunts. This show is guaranteed to have you on the edge of your seat from start to finish! Born from the highly successful ShowTime FMX Team, Airtime FMX features some of the most experienced show FMX riders in the world.

MAIN ARENA (L-8) NEW – EKKA'S BEAUT UTE DISPLAY & PARADE WHEN: 9am-4pm (diplay near LAP Pavilion) 4.30pm August 12 (parade)

Engines will be revving when Ekka’s Beaut Ute Parade drives into the Main Arena for the very first time. Up to 20 utes and their proud owners will be competing for a share in $1,000 in prize money. Utes come in all shapes and sizes, so this competition features several classes - Street, BnS, 4x4 and Novelty. Prizes will be awarded in each class. The utes from clubs including OutKast Ute Club and Dukes Utes will also be on display beside the Large Animal Pavilion from 9am to 4pm.
