Thieves highjack busload of tires
!ere is a busload of “hot” tires that went missing for a short while and police would like more information about it. !e Hawkesbury OPP detachment is investigating a case of tire theft of huge pro- portions. Sometime overnight between Sept. 20 and Sept. 21, a school bus was stolen from the Landriault Tire yard on County Road 17 in Alfred-Plantagenet Township.!e bus was retired fromactive use and kept parked and used for storage at the tire yard. Elle a fait signe au conducteur de se mettre sur le bas côté et a arrêté les quatre hommes qui se trouvaient à bord du véhicule. Ils ont été arrêtés pour tra#c de drogue. La constable a trouvé 45 grammes de cannabis, 1,8 gramme de cocaïne et 14 pilules. Le conducteur, Raphaël Levert, âgé de 19 ans et originaire de Montréal, a été arrêté sur le champ. Il devra répondre à des accu- sations de possession de substance illégale dans le but d’en faire un tra#c. Kenley Bar- thelus-Simeon, âgé également de 19 ans, de Montréal, a été arrêté pour possession de substance illégale (cannabis) dans le but d’en faire un tra#c. Kevin Altidort, 18 ans, de Laval, a été accusé de possession de substance illégale dans le but d’en faire un tra#c. Et Mohamed Massis, 19 ans, de Montréal, a été accusé de possession de substance illégale (cocaïne), de possession de cocaïne dans le but d’en faire le tra#c et de possession de marijuana. Les quatre accusés doivent comparaître en cour de justice, à L’Orignal, le 21 octobre prochain. Quatre arrestations New CEO for school district The Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) has appointed Stephen Sliwa as chief executive officer and also director of education and secre- tary to the board. Sliwa’s appointment takes effect Nov. 23. Sliwa has 30 years experience in public education, including two decades for dis- tricts and communities in the Upper Ottawa Valley and Ottawa-Carleton regions. His career began as an educational assistant for special education in the Greater Toronto Area in 1985, later qualifying for his teaching degree and dealing with special education, Native studies programs, and history curriculum for the Renfrew County District School Board. He has since held postings as a seconda- ry school guidance counsellor, vice-principal and principal at schools in small town and rural areas. Later, he became a provincial supervisory officer with the education ministry, dealing with various curriculum needs for Eastern Ontario school dis- tricts. He returned to district-level postings first as Renfrew County’s education superintendent in 2004 then Ottawa-Carleton’s superintendent of instruction and learning technologies in 2010, before joining the UCDSB to succeed Charlotte Patterson who retires as UCDSB education direc- tor this year. – Gregg Chamberlain
!ieves entered the yard and drove o" with the bus after #rst loading it with new tires. Both the bus and the tires were later recovered but the thieves had $ed. Total value of the items stolen was more than $10,000. Evidence gathered during the investiga- tion indicates three people were involved in the theft. Police have arrested one man, Jean-François Auprix, 28, of L’Orignal, and charged himwith vehicle theft, theft of pro- perty under $5000 value, and possession of stolen goods valued over $5000. He was released on a promise to appear in the pro- vincial court session in L’Orignal on Oct. 21. Anyone with more information on the case is asked to phone Const. Motorcycle accident A 48-year-oldman fromAlfred-Plantage- net Township was airlifted to hospital in Ottawa following a motorcycle accident in Champlain Township on Sept. 22. Police have not released theman’s name but have stated in the incident report that he appears to have non-life-threatening injuries. Police received a report just after 5 p.m. that day that a motorcycle had gone into the ditch alongside Ritchance Road, near the Blue Corner Road intersection. Investi- gation indicates that a piece of equipment fell o" the machine and caused the rider to lose control. Anyone withmore information is asked to contact Const. Yan Faille at the

Impaired driving Guylain Poirier, 57, of St-Isidore, is char- ged with driving with a blood-alcohol level exceeding more than 80 milligrams. !e charge resulted from a police tra%c check Sept. 26, in the village area. Poirier is sche- duled for the Oct. 28 provincial court session in L’Orignal. Assault case Police have arrested and charged an 18-year-old youth with assault using a wea- pon, and failure to obey a legal recogni- zance order. !e assault incident involved the mother of the accused. No names or other details have been released to protect the victim’s identity.
