APRIL 17 Risen With Christ

REV IVAL IN ROMANCE AND REALISM By the founder o f The World Wide Revival Prayer Movement» Mrs. Henry M. Woods “ A recital of the adventures and achievements of faith, a demonstration of 'Signs following/ inspired by the Holy Spirit; a challenge to enlist in the urgent business of working for a much needed Revival in all the churches."—BAPTIST STANDARD. "The book is a personal witness of the power of prayer and of the leading of the Holy Spirit in local and world wide revivals. It should have a wide reading by Christians of all denominations and shades of theological belief. It points the way to a great essential to revival at home and abroad, i.e., humble, fervent, persistent prayer of faith, preceded by confession and repentance and followed by Spirit-guided action."—CHRISTIAN OBSERVER, SOUTHERN PRESBYTERIAN. "It warmed my heart, renewed my grip on God and revived my faith in the potency of prayer. You have helped to make a better Christian and a more efficient minister of me."—D.D., U. S. A. "I have just finished reading 'Revival in Romance and Realism.' That book has been a revelation to me."—BRITISH CLERGYMAN. FLEMING H . REVELL COMPANY 158 Fifth Avenue New York. N. Y.

“And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus” (Eph. 2:6). Sing, soul of mine, this day of days, The Lord is risen. Toward the sunrising set thy face, The Lord is risen. Behold He giveth strength and grace; For darkness, light; for mourning, praise; For sin, His holiness; for conflict, peace.

Arise, O soul, this Easter Day! Forget the tomb of yesterday, For thou from bondage art set free; Thou sharest in His victory And life eternal is for thee, Because the Lord is risen.

APRIL 18 An Act o f Gratitude "Present your bodies a living sacrifice” (Rom. 12:1). That is an excellent illustration given us by St. Austin: If a sculptor, after fash ioning a piece of marble into a human figure, could inspire it with life and sense and give it motion and understanding and speech, would not its first act be to pros trate itself at the feet of its maker in sub jection and thankfulness and to offer all its powers as homage to him? The almighty hand of God formed our b o d i e s . He breathed into us the spirit of life. Should not the power of love and gratitude con strain us to live wholly according to His w ill?— Finest of the Wheat. APRIL 19 Poise o f Soul “I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry” (Psa. 40:1). It is quite possible for Satan to burden us nervously in prayer, creating a feverish anxiety to tabulate answers to our peti tions, bringing about a condition of things where the spiritual poise of the soul be comes shaken, and restlessness takes the place of quiet confidence. Let us guard against rush in the prayer life, against the device of the enemy to drive and push us, either to act without prayer, or pray with out quietness of spirit.— S elected . APRIL 20 More Than an Influence " The Spirit himself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered” (Rom. 8:26). The Holy Spirit is not an influence; He is far more than that. The error that the Spirit of God is not a Person, but only an influence, an emanation from God, some kind of power or energy flowing from God, has never left the church since it crept in. Let us not, therefore, grieve the Holy Spirit by denying His personality, for He is not “ some thing,” but “ Some One.” True, He possesses many influences; “ He c a me , sweet influence to impart,” as we often sing. But He Himself is not an influence; He is a divine Person, yea, He Is very God of very God, coequal with the Father and with the Son.— H erbert L ockyer .
