Cornwall Transit employees were recognized for their commitment to safety during the 20 th annual Safe Driver/Safe Worker Award Breakfast on December 9. Mayor Leslie O’Shaughnessy, Councillor Elaine MacDonald, CAO Norm Levac and other City officials were on hand to present pins and certificates to employees at the Cornwall Transit office on Second Street West. Now in its 20 th year, the annual awards breakfast has helped to foster a standard of excellence within the ranks of Cornwall Transit. “Transit Operators spend countless hours navigating our streets, and to remain collision-free is commendable,” said Cornwall Transit Division Manager Len Tapp. “This is no small accomplishment when you consider operators drive roughly 1 million kilometres annually in urban traffic. Our maintenance personnel also have an excellent safety record once again this year.” One employee to be recognized on Wednesday was operator George Secord, who is approaching 32 years of service with Cornwall Transit come January. In that time, he has seen a lot of changes to the City’s transit system, including an increased focus on employee training. For Secord and other Transit Operators, safe driving habits have become second nature.
