Point to Matt. 12:30 and 2 Cor. 6 : 2 . 6. So far as possible, follow those who confess the Lord, praying for them, encouraging them, and seek ing to line them up in some church where they will find some thing definite to do. Get them to study the Word, to pray, and to tell some one else what the Lord has done for them. 7. Talk to your friends. If Jesus Christ really means much to you, the subject will come up natural ly. See Mk. 5:19. 8. Write letters. They may mean the turning point in some person’s life. Read Gal. 6:11. 9. Use good tracts and books wise ly; they may bring real results. See Ezek. 2:9. 10. Keep a prayer list. There is noth ing more important than constant, everyday praying for those whom we would bring to the feet of the Master. Make a list of these peo ple, and really pray that God may touch their lives. Note 1 Sam. 7 :5. III. Scripture References which Every Soul-Winner Should Memorise. Reference Subject 1. John 10:28, 29 Held fast 24. 2 Tim. 1 :12 He can keep us There are a number of common objec tions met by any one who seeks to deal with others on the subject of the Chris tian life. It will be well to spend one evening in discussing some of these dif ficulties and suggesting possible means of answering the questions which will nat urally arise. The list which is here ap pended is by no means exhaustive. It should be supplemented by further study on the part of the leader and the various members. Five suggestions are made, with Scripture references which may be used in answer to each. It might be well in 6. John 3:16 7. John 1:12 8. John 5 -.24 9. points suggested below should furnish the basis for definite discussion by the mem bers of the society or department. D iscussion O utline I. Some Things Essential in Preparation for Soul-Winning. 1. Without a prayer backing, your efforts will fail. Your prayers will count much. See Jas. 5 :16. 2. Faith is necessary. Read John 1-4:12. 3. If you would win others, you must be willing to sacrifice. Study Matt. 16:25. 4. You must study your Bible con tinuously. This short course is but a taste of the rich material which the Bible offers. Read Col. 3:16 and 2 Tim. 2:15. 5. Use tact! Many are driven away from the kingdom of God be cause Christians are -foolish in the manner of their presentation of the gospel. Paul used tact. See 1 Cor. 9:22. 6. Be earnest. Charles H. Spurgeon • once said: “If a man is to be a soul-winner, there must be in him intensity of emotion as well as sincerity of heart. You may re peat the most affectionate exhor tations in such a half-hearted manner that no one will be moved either by love or fear. I believe that for a soul-winner there is more in this matter of earnestness than in anything else.” , 7. Be persevering. Never give. up. Keep on the job every minute of every day. You may have an op portunity when you least expect it. See Isa. 62:6, R.V. 8. Be tender. Let love be the com pelling motive in your efforts. Study John 10:12. Get a glimpse of the Saviour and His great love, and He will show you how to love • others. 1. After asking for and expecting the Holy Spirit to guide you, fol low His leading. 2. When the Spirit opens the way, even though-humanly speaking the time may seem inopportune, take advantage of every opportunity that is offered. See 2 Tim. 4 :2. 3. When you are with a stranger, open up a conversation, and then turn it to the things of Christ. Sometimes a conversation will • lead quite naturally from the things of this life to those of eternity. I f ’.not, at some natural break in the conversation, you can frankly tell the one to whom you have been talking that you won dered if he had ever taken the Lord Jesus to be his Saviour. As a rule, this gives an opportunity to tell an unbeliever how much Christ means to you, and also to give him the gospel. 4. During or following an evangelis tic meeting, people may be ap proached very directly about the welfare of their souls, without any further introduction than the message of the evangelist. They are already thinking seriously, if the Holy Spirit has been dealing with them. 5. Press the truth that a decision, one way or the other, is inevitable. II. When and How?
