YOUR FMB _ INSPECTIONS

Lessons in refinement

What an inspection typically involves Our inspections are not surveys or formal building control inspections; however, we align our checks with core technical standards and functional requirements that building control would assess, such as: foundation suitability for anticipated loads; correct bearing and positioning of masonry; structural restraint, drainage operation; roof construction; thermal and cavity insulation; and compliance-level installation of components such as wall ties, cavity barriers, lintels, rainwater goods, and window units. We review the quality, suitability, and application of materials – along with workmanship of visible finishes – to ensure they meet industry expectations for durability, alignment, and presentation Each inspection is tailored to the nature of the works, recognising the range of construction methods and project types our members deliver. The inspection is appraised against the member’s declared trades and the stage of completion on site, ensuring a realistic, technically informed assessment based only on what is visible, accessible, and reasonably verifiable at the time of the visit. Inspections maintain members’ high standards – and Anglian Developers’ project ticks all the right boxes, says the FMB’s Jeremy Holehouse

A s Head of the FMB’s from across the country. Visits from our team help to ensure that members’ work aligns with industry best practices and reinforces the trust that clients place in the FMB. By reviewing workmanship and capability, we safeguard the FMB’s reputation and support a culture of continuous improvement across the Inspection Department, I’m fortunate to see many construction projects trade. Inspections form a routine part of our membership schedule, and arranging yours is straightforward. I recently visited a standout project by Anglian Developers Ltd in Swaffham. About the project The property has transformed over nearly three years, beginning in early 2023 and reaching completion at the end of 2025. What has emerged is a beautifully balanced home, integrating new spaces with the character of the original building. One of the most impressive features is the rear single-storey extension. Now home to a welcoming kitchen and pantry, the space has been finished

with thoughtful touches such as tiled flooring with underfloor heating and lantern skylights for natural light. The two-storey extension adds depth and practicality. Key features include: an ensuite bedroom; a hardwood staircase with

glass balustrade; a utilities room;

an understairs boot room; and dedicated plant/service area.

Existing areas of the home have been improved, with the conservatory re- roofed and redecorated, new flooring throughout the home, carpentry and decoration for continuity and renewal. Projects like this reflect the values we promote at every level of the industry: attention to detail; pride in workmanship; and commitment to creating homes that improve people’s lives. Anglian Developers Ltd has approached this work with those values in mind. The result is not only a successful construction project, but a home that feels ready to support the family for many years ahead.
