Southern Counties Area Board Heard from FMB Partner Hazardco on the Health and Safety Executive’s Fees for Intervention charges and gave tips to reduce the effects of the changes. Planned to organise social events in the region – so if you are interested in attending, speak with South Director Iain Kirtley (details below). South West Area Board Attended a presentation on Cyber Essentials for support on putting digital security in place. Planned to explore member events, so contact Iain if interested. Rest in Peace, Joe Richard Vincent of Vincent & Sons Ltd, based in Salisbury, shared a tragic update from his business regarding his son, Joe. “With the greatest sadness we announce that our youngest son Joe suddenly passed away on 13/12/2025 aged 30. He will be greatly missed.” On behalf of the FMB, particularly members in the South who know Richard, his family and his team, South Director Iain Kirtley expressed his deepest sympathies at this sad time.

Chris McDonald, Minister for Industry in the Department for Business and Trade; Calvin Bailey MP; James Lee, Green Skills VStephen Johnson, Construction, Built Environment Lead at GLA. Learners showcased their skills while the FMB urged policymakers to support employer-led training. McDonald, who is also Co-chair of the Construction Leadership Council, said the Build Academy plays a “pivotal role” in training the next generation of workers, and announced that the government has invested £625 million to promote construction as a career and train new recruits. Build Academy is a unique project bridging the gap between further education and site-ready skills. The project is a collaboration with Shooters Hill Sixth Form College and funded by the CITB. The FMB is currently looking for members to take students on work placements so they can gain vital experience. Contact London Director Tom Peardon for more information. Spread the word South Director Iain Kirtley has been busy promoting the FMB across the region by: participating in a webinar as part of the Green Register’s Twilight Talks; and updating the Builders’ Merchants Federation regional board. Kirtley also expressed his gratitude to members for their support at the Farnborough Homebuilding and Renovating Show, and at the National Self Build & Renovation Centre’s Winter Show: Robert Lea of Berrywood Contractors Ltd; Dominic Hearn of DH Builders; Simon Banham of Aztec;

New North boards

FMB in the North is adapting how elected boards work, opening the door to wider participation. There are opportunities to seize so share your ideas to strengthen the FMB, and make it more inclusive and reflective of the builders it represents. Look out for communications about how to participate: immediately and informally; or in new elected roles across the North later in Autumn.
