OPERATIONS SECTION CHIEF

The Operations Section Chief is responsible for the management of all operations directly applicable to the primary mission. The OPS activates and supervises organization elements in accordance with the Incident Action Plan (IAP) and directs its execution. The OPS also directs the preparation of unit operational plans, requests and releases resources, makes expedient changes to the IAP as necessary, and reports such changes to the IC.

q Obtain briefing from the Incident Commander q Act as the IC’s executive officer q Develop operations portion of the Incident Action Plan q Brief and assign operations personnel in accordance with the IAP q Manage tactical operations

q Organize and manage branches, divisions and groups as needed q Ensure safe operations and coordinate with the Safety Officer q Establish perimeter control q Coordinate preparation of the traffic plan with the Planning Section. q Monitor tactical operations closely and be prepared for rapidly changing situations q Determine needs and request resources q Establish staging area(s) q If air operations are necessary establish the Air Operations Branch. Appoint a Director if needed. q Contact the FAA and establish a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) area if needed. q Assemble and disassemble tactical operational units q Debrief tactical units and provide debriefing information to Plans Section q Maintain close coordination with the IC q Initiate recommendation for release of resources q Maintain Unit Log (ICS 214)
