BOMB THREAT/BIO-TERRORISM THREAT

1. If you observe a suspicious object or potential bomb on campus, DO NOT TOUCH THE OBJECT . Clear the area and immediately call 911. 2. Any person receiving a phone call bomb threat should obtain the following information from the caller: • When is the bomb going to explode? • Where is the bomb located? • What kind of bomb is it? • What does the bomb look like? • Why did you place the bomb? 3. Keep talking to the caller as long as possible and record the following: • Time of the call. • Estimated age and gender of the caller. • Speech pattern, accent, possible nationality, intoxicated etc. • Emotional state of the caller. • Background noise. • Exact words the caller used. • Caller ID or phone number shown. 4. DO NOT activate the building alarm. 5. Immediately notify 911. 6. Due to the special nature of a bomb threat, evacuation procedures, refuge points, and gathering sites for evacuees will be determined by the Incident Commander at the scene. 7. When emergency responders arrive, follow their instructions exactly 8. Police officers will conduct a detailed bomb search. 9. Do not touch suspicious objects. Do not open cabinets, drawers, or closets. Do not turn lights or office equipment on or off.

BOMB/EXPLOSION

Explosions may be accidental or deliberate and can be caused by chemicals, natural gas, propane, high pressure steam or an explosive device.

If you see/hear an explosion: 1. Call 911 immediately 2. Be prepared for possible further explosions. 3. Leave the area, if possible. 4. If unable to leave, take cover under a table or desk or in a windowless interior room, such as a restroom. 5. Stay away from windows, mirrors, overhead fixtures, filing cabinets, bookcases, heavy objects, and electrical equipment. 6. If evacuation is ordered, proceed to the appropriate assembly area. 7. Do not move seriously injured persons unless they are in obvious, immediate danger. 8. Open doors carefully. Watch for falling objects. 9. Do not use elevators. 10. Do not use matches or lighters. 11. Do not spread rumors. 12. Be prepared for fire or power failure to follow explosions.
