REWARD

“I have now passed my Level 5 Assistant Payroll Manager Apprenticeship. I was the first in the country to do this, which is a lovely personal achievement”

suited me, like positioning the automatic enrolment material to fit in with my own company’s re-enrolment stage. Going through the behaviours and discussion modules early on helped me with leading my own mid-year conversations with my team. Similarly, it enhanced my hiring skills which was beneficial when finding candidates for new roles. During my course, I gained more confidence after each module and quickly started to put what I had learned into practice. I started to lead and teach the team by giving presentations and facilitating training sessions on specific knowledge areas. As a payroll apprentice, I also started to confidently connect with other stakeholders of the business, bringing together all the many aspects that make a great payroll team while still ensuring our colleagues were paid accurately and on time, every time. My tutor supported me for the duration of my course, including in group sessions and individual meetings, always providing extra assistance on modules where needed.

They also welcomed my feedback on the course material and listened to how I developed, which will help any future apprentices taking the course. My employer was updated throughout the apprenticeship, with regular catch-ups to discuss how each module could relate to my day-to-day role. It was great to hear my employer supporting me with feedback on my progress, which gave me the confidence to stretch my learning and responsibilities at each stage. Exams aren’t for everyone and can be quite daunting, so before starting my EPA, my tutor helped me with mock discussions, extra learning material and guidance, so that when I was ready I could start my 12-week EPA period. For my EPA, I had: l a multiple-choice exam

l a professional discussion l a project to submit. It was when I started these activities that I could clearly see how all my learning throughout the modules and mock exams had prepared me to pass. Reaching for the stars I have now passed my Level 5 Assistant Payroll Manager Apprenticeship. I was the first in the country to do this, which is a lovely personal achievement. Having the confidence to own and grow within my role and to be recognised as a successor in my company are the greatest outcomes of this apprenticeship for me. I hope that by actively sharing my experience, I will inspire others in the industry to develop their careers by completing an apprenticeship. n

HOLIDAY PAY WEBINAR : WHAT’S CHANGED? One hour webinar

In January 2024 the government introduced new regulations to update the way that holiday pay and leave entitlement is calculated for part-year and irregular hours (casual) workers. The changes will affect all leave years commencing on or after 1 April 2024. For organisations with leave years beginning before this date there is likely to be a transition period potentially lasting up to March 2025. This webinar will provide you with an understanding of the key areas of change and ensure you are confident in how to comply with the new regulations during this transition period.
