FAREWELL…ANDHELLO SOME NEWS of recent staff movements at the CIPP.

● Benjamin Carter MSc FCIPPdip FCMI , CIPP’s education manager, is leaving the Chartered Institute to take up a director level position in the family business. The CIPP thanks Ben for his dedication, support, and boundless enthusiasm over the three and a half years he has been here. Ben will be much missed as his ideas and creativity have had a hugely positive impact. We wish Ben all the best for the future. ● Joanne Leather ACIPP , former education support specialist at the CIPP, has successfully secured the role of education manager. The Institute extends congratulations to Jo and wishes her best of luck in her new role.

SAMANTHA MANN MAAT MCIPPdip JOINS ARMSTRONGWATSON LLP SAMANTHA, WHO left CIPP employment at the end of December, will be taking up the role of payroll legislation consultant with Armstrong Watson LLP in January to support the professional development of the firm’s 25-plus strong team. Sam’s appointment will not only aid the team’s professional development towards achieving their goals for progression, but also support them in meeting the needs of clients. Karen Thomson, partner and head of payroll and people at Armstrong Watson LLP, said: “I am delighted to have such a knowledgeable, highly regarded, experienced payroll professional join our team and I am really excited to see my team develop to their full potential.”

JANINE HOFFMAN BA(HONS) FDA MCIPPdip APPOINTED AS PAYROLL MANAGER HAVING STARTED her career sixteen years ago as a payroll assistant in local government, Janine has recently returned to the sector as payroll manager at Waverley Borough Council. Excited to start her new position, Janine commented: “It will be a challenging role, managing the entire payroll function but I see it as an excellent opportunity to progress my career.

AND, BRIEFLY… ● Kavitha Sivasubramaniam has been appointed editor of Employee Benefits magazine by the publisher DVV Media International Ltd. Kavitha, who has previously edited/worked with magazines such as Pay & Benefits, Reward , Canmaker and Bella , commented that she was returning “to an industry and title that I know and love.” ● Dominik Jablonski has started a new post as senior payroll specialist EMEAI at Sherwin-Williams LLP. ● Amarvishnu Ramamoorthy has been appointed on a contract basis as an expat payroll and HR operation officer at HSBC Bank. The duties include ensuring the payroll is processed accurately for all the international managers, international secondees, short-term assignees and international temporary workers. ● Richmal Price has been promoted to payroll customer service manager at Network Rail.

“Waverley Borough council is in a period of change and I am hoping to bring my knowledge of payroll best practices to aide them during these uncertain times. “I hope to put in new controls, learn more about budgets and bring my enthusiasm and positive attitude to the organisation.”

Peter Blackhurst FCIPPdip – deceased

In mid-January, news was sadly received of the untimely death of industry luminary Peter Blackhurst, at age 77. Peter had been receiving treatment for a chronic disease, complicated by the pandemic. Peter was a founder member of the Association of Payroll and Superannuation Administrators, and also among the small group who launched the payroll professional body which is now known as the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals. The March issue will include appropriate remembrances and tributes.
