in that region and still preaching in mar kets and at fairs, although 80 or more and deaf as a post) to a nearby village and called on a Christian there and held a short service. That evening another service in the school made five for that day. “ Tuesday morning we held a regular service in the church and I again preached a brand new sermon on “ The Fourfold Witness to Christ.” It was very simple and really an exposition o f John 5 :33-47. After lunch and a slight rest we went to the home, o f an enquirer named Chi, some little dis tance off. A number o f his neighbors came in to see us and we chatted with them and preached a good deal to them with their scarcely knowing it. They seemed quite interested and took tracts. Then we had a service in the yard. There were over a dozen women and big girls busy reeling their thread, and lots o f children. The lat ter were remarkably well behaved and quiet and the women listened with all their ears and apparent comprehension. “ From there we went to the village we had missed twice and spent the night in the home o f the man I specially wished to see. Held service there after supper and again in the morning. That was yesterday, and it was a scorching hot day, but we traveled about thirty li, making four stops and hold ing five services. “ I planned coming on here where I hoped to meet the messenger from you but by the time we got to the last place the helper and Hsii Hong Djie appeared most used up although they would not admit that they were. So I had mercy on them, although I felt fine myself and only a little sleepy. I retired fairly early, sleeping with my cot out under a pear tree in an empty yard. It was lovely and cool there afid I felt so refreshed this morning. Was up bright and early and after breakfast had service and came here. Have just partaken o f a light lunch and while the others sing I am trying 1 to get things ready to send back by the mes senger. Then we shall have service and go on to Lao Gwan Chen Gia for a couple more services before the day is done.

sion. I was quite conscious o f the presence o f the Holy Spirit and had unusual liberty in speaking. All this trip I have been remarkably helped in speaking and felt the Spirit’s presence in a remarkable way. “ That afternoon we went to a village about three li distant. I had caught a lit tle cold in my abdomen and felt rather uncomfortable and some cramps so I was glad Mr. Wang had cpme back and could relieve me o f leading the afternoon service. I only spoke a few ,words there. In the evening I held another service in the school. “Your letter sent out by Mr. Chen was delivered to me there and 1 was certainly glad to get it. The booklets you gave him were not the ones I meant. Guess you did not look under the clothes in the second chiffonier drawer, (the white one). , “Monday morning after service in the school I went to a town close by to hold a little service with an old couple who are much broken up, having lost both o f their sons in a few months o f each other. Then we went to a market town not far from villages with Christians. It was afternoon when we got there and I expected to spend the night walking over to see the nearby Christians. The wind and dust had ren dered the inns impossible so I decided to merely eat and press on. While waiting for some lunch to be prepared I sat outside and preached to a very interested and atten tive crowd that gathered. “ The town I headed for after lunch was one Mr. Murray and I missed because of the dust on our previous trip. Well we missed it again and first thing we knew we landed at the place we had expected to reacli the following day. There were spe cial reasons for visiting that village as one o f the Christians has a rancor in his heart and does not attend church. I decided the devil might be purposely sending us astray and resolved to return there on the follow ing day or bust. “ On arrival at Hon Lu Gia I met the evangelist o f that district and went with him and old Mr. Lu Bing (first Christian
