Robyn Bindrich is a lifelong learner, educator, and changemaker. Her family instilled in her a love of nature, reading and writing, and a commitment to living courageously. Today she lives these values beside her own family as a literacy leader, community activist, and hobby farmer. Beekeeping teaches her the balance between individual responsibility and collective efficacy to sustain communities, large and small. Robyn began her career as a middle school literacy teacher, where she thrived in a school culture that fostered collaboration, leadership, and teacher agency. With a desire to grow professionally, she pursued an M.S. in Reading, followed by joining the Fox Valley Writing Project where she developed an interest in supporting teachers and students through collaborative and transformational learning. As a literacy coach, Robyn became keenly aware of the ways in which policy, legislation and school systems diminish teacher agency and well-being, ultimately leading to unfulfilled promises of public education for students and their families. Nevertheless, she persisted in supporting her peers through professional partnerships that relied on teacher expertise and student-centered decision making to advance learning and the love of reading and writing. Robyn’s current work as literacy leader for the state education agency has led her to the Educational Sustainability program, where she aims to research and contribute to educational systems that support teacher agency, center students, and promote diversity, equity and inclusion. She is inspired by the interdisciplinary approach of the Ed.D. program that emphasizes the interconnected elements of environmental, social and economic sustainability. A member of Cohort 9, Robyn is eager to grow individually and collectively, recognizing that each of our unique interests and strengths contribute to the hive.
