How Lucy Found Her Kidney Donor
to James, Humphrey decided to go over and apologize. However, James was unbothered by Indie and began conversing with Humphrey. Shortly into their discussion, Humphrey informed James that she needed a kidney. And it just so happened that James recently joined a kidney donation registry. So, the two exchanged phone numbers. Humphrey told the Daily Record, “And to be honest, I didn’t think anything else would come of it.” But Humphrey was in for a life- changing surprise. A couple of weeks later, blood tests revealed that James and Humphrey’s blood work was a perfect match — Humphrey could use James’ kidney! In October 2022, Humphrey had a kidney transplant, and today, she and James are healthy. “I’m so grateful for her,” Humphrey says, “... if I didn’t find a transplant ... I would die. I want this to be a message to other people not to give up hope.”
Coincidences happen for a reason — you may have experienced the “I was at the right place, at the right time” scenario once in your life. For the most part, these incidents are minor and lighthearted. But sometimes, coincidences can alter the course of your life. Lucy Humphrey has lived her entire adult life with lupus. Lupus is an inflammatory disease that affects joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart, and lungs. While lupus has no cure, various treatment options improve quality of life and prevent flare-ups. However, Humphrey’s doctor told her that if she couldn’t find a new kidney within five years, there was a high possibility she could die. It’s very difficult to find a kidney match, and unfortunately, some people never find their “perfect match.” But this didn’t stop Humphrey from living her life. As she waited on a kidney transplant list, she and her partner decided to drive their camper to the beach and enjoy quality time together.

go. This is when I came across a feather. Alison collects feathers, and if I find one, I always bring it back for her. As soon as my fingers touched the feather, something hit me — it was as if Amigo was talking to me. He told me he was okay and finally got his wings. Thank you, Amigo, for giving me a sign. It’s been several months since Amigo passed away, and our home was too quiet. So, Alison and I decided to adopt another furry friend! We recently got Enzo, a greyhound and Labrador retriever who has brought us so much joy. And I know Amigo is looking after us and is happy we got another furry friend.
